I'm most surprised that High School Tony had the 2nd most wins of all those bums!

He's the one that gets 100% of the real credit for getting the Fertitta Football Complex done too, DRF/Arroyo just got to reap the benefits.

Between the facility upgrades and the .333 record, he's arguably had a larger positive impact on the football program than any other head coach in UNLV's illustrious history.

They might have done just as well if Fertitta would have coached the team himself.

In their 45 year existence, UNLV has had 10 winning seasons (if you count the forfeited seasons):

  • 1978: 7-4
  • 1979: 9-1-2
  • 1980: 7-4
  • 1983: 7-4 (all games later changed to a forfeit by NCAA for using ineligible players)
  • 1984: 11-2 (all games later changed to a forfeit by NCAA for using ineligible players)
  • 1986: 6-5
  • 1992: 6-5
  • 1994: 7-5
  • 2000: 8-5
  • 2013: 7-6

At what point do they just say to hell with football? Below are all of the former football playing members of the Big West, and how their football team has done since they left the Big West.

  • Arkansas State Red Wolves - 5 conference championships, 4 bowl wins
  • Boise State Broncos - 12 conference championships, 10 bowl wins
  • Cal State Fullerton Titans - dropped football in 1993
  • Fresno State Bulldogs - 6 conference championships, 7 bowl wins
  • Idaho Vandals - 2 bowl wins, dropped to FCS in 2018
  • Long Beach State 49ers - dropped football in 1992
  • Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns - 4 conference championships, 7 bowl wins
  • Louisiana Tech Bulldogs - 2 conference championships, 7 bowl wins
  • New Mexico State Aggies - 1 bowl win
  • Nevada Wolf Pack - 2 conference championships, 5 bowl wins
  • North Texas Mean Green - 4 conference championships, 2 bowl wins
  • Northern Illinois Huskies - 5 conference championships, 3 bowl wins
  • Pacific Tigers - dropped football in 1996
  • UNLV Rebels - 1 bowl win
  • Utah State Aggies - 2 conference championships, 5 bowl wins

Idaho has had more success on the field. Let that sink in. The Vandals, on paper, have had a more successful football team than UNLV over the last 30 years.

One of best records in 50 years and you listen to @RebelRobert and fire the guy. 😂

Arroyo just returned us to where we were at with Tony Sanchez... Tony went 4-8, 4-8, and 5-7 in his last 3 seasons playing in the swamps of Henderson at Sam Boyd Stadium with no Fertitta Football Complex/Allegiant Stadium to recruit from--and the MWC was a hell of a lot more competitive in 2015-2019 than it is now.

Arroyo was hired to elevate the program above where a highschool coach could take it----not take 3 years to get it back to where it was after we fired the highschool guy. The program wasn't in shambles when Arroyo took over, it was bringing back a experienced roster supplemented by the best recruiting class in school history plus just putting the finishing touches on a $40 million practice facility and moving into a $2 billion stadium just up the road from campus.

UNLV is heavily invested in the football program now, and like our AD said on radio, we have all these resources at our disposal and we can't be competitive with SJSU and losing to fuggin' Hawaii?? It wasn't acceptable and that's why he's gone.

How long before the next coach gets you to Arroyo’s 5-7 record. You guys are just going around in circles using 4-5 wins as the standard to shoot for.

if we hire a BIG NAME like UNLV always does when we get hyped on a new HC search, i expect the turnaround will be very quick.

The new head coach would have Doug Brumfield, Aidan Robbins, and Ricky White.

Defensively, it will be an adventure, but a guy like Gary Patterson would be able to fix things.

I know. These are the glory days of UNLV football. Take it from me, you've got to enjoy them while they last.

None of Arroyo's teams were as good as Sanchez's last years.  Still have some work to do to get back that level.  5-7 record is deceiving because the league is so bad.  Losing to Hawaii was bad but going to the wire with Reno was truly unforgivable-- rivalry be damned.

40 years, 10 football coaching hires. 10 times of hiring someone to build the program, 10 fails.

40 years of building to what they have now, a 5 win season and another fired up-and-coming coach.

I’ll be posting the same thing in 10 years and another 2-3 more fired coaches. See ya then!

Hey, if your fro gets any bigger, the FAA is going to require you to put red lights on your head.

Isn't it adorable that Vegas FB began in '68 (as Division II: Division I in like '78)? Even Boazy's program is older than that.

what's even more adorable is even though UNLV's football program is infantile in comparison to some of you geriatric old farts on this board, our program's are still on the same playing field even with the 50-60+ year headstart your school's got.

You don’t want to turn around and go back to 2 win seasons. You want to progress to 6 to 7 win season that Arroyo was about to achieve for you, Gomer.

And yet ... http://www.winsipedia.com/utah-state/vs/unlv

You keep using that word. I do not think that word means what you think it means.

don't bore me with ancient history! We pummeled you into the ground this season--and we will again next season, and the season after that and the season after that until the hydrogen in our sun burns out triggering gravitational forces to cause the sun to expand until it scorches this little blue rock out of the sky motherf*cker

and we fired the man that started it all, because it.wasn't.enough.

lube up for next season while you can
