to me a barroom incident, never reported, which happened 30 years ago while the couple was in college, seems like a nothing burger

I think what he did was shitty. It was 30 years ago and he worked it out with his, now wife, back then. It seems like he dealt with it as best he could (by this I mean he worked through it with her) and they moved on. I don't think it is excusable at all, but if she wanted to stay with him and there hasn't been issues since, that is their choice. Again, I think she should have left him then, but I am not part of their relationship. If they worked through it and there hasn't been anything else like that, good for them.

For Reyna's mom to report this now because of her son's experience in the World Cup is so petty. She mentioned the trauma that Rosalind went through at the time. I believe it, but if she was so genuinely concerned, for her to say nothing until it could be used to "take him down" is pretty terrible. Gio himself seemed to take some responsibility for how he behaved, so this is all very bizarre.

A kick in the legs seems to be the undisputed story.

 

 

But it honestly doesnt matter at this point, 30 years later.  The Berhalters have been married 25 years (when he was still a spare player playing in Holland) and have 4 children.  They seem to have managed to get past it.

Having a young squad has its disadvantages - like rampant immaturity.

At least this unnecessary flare-up happened after the World Cup, and not during.  Otherwise it would have been enough of a distraction to stop the US from reaching the knockout rounds
