We’re alive!

Lol. I saw this and tuned in. Already down 2 again. Such a disappointment. The USMNT always seems to try and play not to lose instead of to win.

So just how good is the US defense? 1 goal allowed in the Group Stage, and that on a PK, yes? Are we truly improved defensively, have we faced weak attacks, are we just lucky? Does our midfield talent have anything to do with the performance of our D? As a futbol outsider, just trying to learn more about why things work as they do during the game.

The question has been answered.

I had U.S. losing this game 3-0 today.  Surprised we got a goal (beautiful as it was)...

Not sure it was intentional but we’ll take it.

Agreed but putting on another smallish attacking midfielder out of position as a center forward isn’t really a great option either. Reyna is no striker.

He is really an attacking mid who can set up others.  The US needs to move to the RAMM midfield playing a 4-4-2….  We just need to find two forwards who can finish.

But Reyna as an attacking mid flanked by Musah and McKinnie and Adams as a defensive mid is a solid mid field going forward.

I think it was, but either way it was an absolutely incredible goal.  "Touch" (at speed) at its very finest...

I dunno. Seconds before when he tried to round the keeper he exhibited the touch of a rhino…

Bummed that the USA lost. Excited by the fact that a team with a rich history like the Netherlands was so concerned about the USA that they played low block, counterattacking football. The USA future is bright. Might take a whole generation to get even further in the knockout stage but you can see it coming.

Yeah I think this team in 4 years is going to be much better if they can find forwards and our young centerbacks mature.

This is what I expected going in. Decent showing, decent overall play, out early and on to '26 when there will be a whole different level of maturity and team play. Hopefully some young new backers/mids and finishers! #Pepi

Hoped the backside of the US Defense enjoyed watching much of the game today! <_<

I’ve heard the US was going to be good for 20 or so years. Not going to hold my breath.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

that was a display in being outcoached by a vastly superior soccer mind.  Yes, CBs and whatever we call a Forward are not up to the level of the rest of the team but a tactician just handed it to a predictable mediocre coach with a 40% career winning % in pro club coaching.

Is GB still in charge in 26?

I don’t really agree. There was no tactical wizardry on display today. The Dutch allowed substantial possession to the US while defending in depth in a very organized way. They counterattacked on the break and clinically finished very very simple goals.

Van Gaal has had a great career but during his time managing in the Premiership his tactics were way behind those of Klopp and Guardiola.

We’ve got decent midfielders but today we defended very poorly and we have no finishers. We’ve got to find a couple strikers to go further in ‘26.

For some reason this appeals to me more than club soccer. International soccer is so lopsided with the talent dispersal. Here you go America, here’s six midfielders, two goaltenders, one forward, and not a single striker. Also, none of them are six feet tall.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.
