Is GB still in charge in 26?

That's the question. Thought he did well in group play (and I was NOT a fan previously).

I think there's definitely room for an upgrade but it would need to be soon and I have no idea who might be a fit.

I don’t really agree. There was no tactical wizardry on display today. The Dutch allowed substantial possession to the US while defending in depth in a very organized way. They counterattacked on the break and clinically finished very very simple goals.

Van Gaal has had a great career but during his time managing in the Premiership his tactics were way behind those of Klopp and Guardiola.

We’ve got decent midfielders but today we defended very poorly and we have no finishers. We’ve got to find a couple strikers to go further in ‘26.

tacctical wizardry wasn't what I suggested and it wasn't needed to beat the US.  Van Gaal did what was required to embarrass Berhalter, career 40% winning coach.   Van Gaal with an impressive resume including Barcelona, etc.

Berhalter knows one formation and he doesn't have the horses to run it properly.  Still it's all he knows apparently.

In his defense, he did switch things up a bit and deployed a 4-4-2 mid block defensively that morphed into his favorite 4-3-3 when we had the ball. But yeah, he's incredibly stubborn.

The issue is he's adamant on his formation and his playing style, which leads to a lack of goals when facing decent competition. Rumors are he makes players memorize complicated play sheets and what-ifs before they're allowed into the national team selection pool, which explains why he's slow to involve up and coming guys and instead wastes roster spots for "his guys".

He makes the defensive fullbacks run a marathon every game and tries to have all offensive threats come from the outside. Our 3-man midfield is pretty badass, but they're not asked to do much in terms of creating chances besides passing out wide to the wingers or fullbacks (like McKennie to Dest for the Iran goal). Guys like Pulisic and Reyna would excel in a central, playmaker type role but are stuck wasting away out wide or on the bench.

We need someone who is creative enough to build a game plan based on the best roster available, not someone who builds a roster to fit his preferred style.

And he only has 2 good FB's.  He ran them into the ground, Van Gaal knew it and exploited the edges.  Hope there's a new head man for the USMNT soon.   Start assessing the talent pool, etc and decide how best to utilize it.
