Fresno @ USC Game Thread

Recommended Posts

Figured I would get us started.

7:30 PM PST kickoff in the LA Coliseum and broadcast on FOX.

Fresno State (1-1) comes to LA after a heartbreaking week 2 loss to Oregon State. USC is riding high at 2-0 after wins over Rice and Stanford under the new Lincoln Riley regime led by Caleb Williams, Jordan Addison, Mario Williams, and with what feels like a hundred other transfers.

Senior QB Jake Haener is leading the Fresno State offense and boasts a career 6,901 passing yards and 51 touchdowns. Haener from Danville, CA grew up a Trojan fan but was spurned due to his size. He began his career at Washington and appeared as a backup to Jake Browning in 4 games. He ended up transferring to Fresno State where he has thrived. He seems to be digging in with the underdog mentality and is going to be playing with a chip on his shoulder on Saturday.

Sophomore QB Caleb Williams from D.C has taken charge of the USC offense. After starting in 6 games in the 2021 season he found his way into OU lore by taking over for the former embattled OU QB Spencer Rattler in the Red River Rivalry. He led OU to a nail-biting 55-48 victory. He finished the season with 1,912 yards, 21 TDs, and was 136-211 in pass completions. After 2 games for the Trojan's he has picked up right where left off with all of his offensive weapons at his disposal.

USC leads the overall series with Fresno 4-1*.

Should be a great game, but hopefully the Trojan's neuter the Bulldogs!

I think the line is very accurate.  About -11 USC. I think Fresno keeps this close through 3.5 quarters, then USC pulls away at the end.

I'm interested to see how well the defense holds up against a more experienced offense. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns into a shootout going into the 4th, but if the defense is able to take that next step from its bend don't break mentality I wouldn't be surprised to see it turn into a blowout either.
