So, other than the false notion that nobody but red state Americans grasp the problems at the border, what did we achieve here? Cool, some Fox viewers now get to feel superior to some rich people who live on an island they will never go to. I can feel the progress already.

Now, think of the disconnect it takes to argue that making rich whiteys in Martha's Vineyard are the problem while turning a blind eye in Caldwell, Idaho, where there are countless employed undocumented agricultural workers working for people who are not rich whites in Martha's Vineyard.

Well for one a bunch of migrants got to take a chartered flight to one of the richest places in the country and spend a free night on their hospitality before being shipped off to a federal facility.

Two, we got to see the dumb lunatics spin like this is kidnapping or human trafficking, although those legal eagles would find a reason to do that anyway so that’s a push.

Three, our immigration problem took center stage for a day going on two. You want a conversation? You want to achieve something? It doesn’t happen all in one day. But putting it front and center, highlighting how stupid our policies are, is the way to do it. Bit by bit.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

It's complete waste of 200 billion that could have went to helping people.

you still never answered my question re: whether you'd have supported spending $200,000,000,000 on any of the groups you mentioned

Put the shovel down.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

The California taxpayers VOTED FOR IT, you ignoramous.

That is correct at an the original price tag of 33 billion. It will be 200 billion by the time it's finished. And taxpayers had no say when the CA Senate passed legislation for the continuation. Total waste!!

Yes, they did have a say in it by voting for the lawmakers in office. The HSR is still supported by over 50% of California voters the last I saw. What the legislature has done is continue funding a project that the taxpayers explicitly voted for.

Are you just naturally this braindead? Or is it something that you've had to work at over the years?

First, no, it's not a kidnapping. But as wonderful as I am sure it was, dropping people into a strange place under false pretenses to an area not prepared to handle it — just so you can laugh at rich whiteys — is using people as human pawns. Don't justify it. It's gross.

The policy discussion is still nonexistent. It's just a stunt. Nothing more. Yay team!

33 to 200 billion. Par for the course in California. At least the Titanic sank with its lights on.

FIFY.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

That's kind of my issue.  It's cruel.  It's "people dislike you guys so much that we are moving you from place to place to piss the people off who live there".  That is just...mean.

A good portion of that increase is caused by politically motivated resistance. As one who is against the train in general, I also understand how conservatives effectively used things like CEQA to drive up prices and then complain about how the price is going up.

That's a pretty drastic price increase. I could think of a lot things 200 billion could have been used for.
