Just wanted to get in before "this is why we can't take libs seriously, it's all Nazi's and Hitler with you".

The comparisons are glaring

Pop Tv Laughing GIF by Schitt's Creek

We’re laughing too. 38 pages, hysteric Twitter lawyering about kidnapping, and a phony civil suit set to draw donations that the Martha’s Vineyard go fund me didn’t vacuum up.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

This here is why your defense of this nonsense was wrong from the beginning. Both sides think they owned each other, which was the inevitable conclusion. They’re laughing. You’re laughing. Yet, nothing substantive achieved at all.

Sure, we played games with the lives of people who have the legal right to be here. But the stunt did manage to make most everybody look terrible! Yay us!

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/florida-migrant-moving-company-gave-gop-cash-ties-desantis-immigration-rcna48967

"The air charter company Gov. Ron DeSantis’s administration hired for his migrant-moving program has contributed big money to some top allies of the governor and was once legally represented by Rep. Matt Gaetz and his former partner, who is now Florida's “public safety czar” in charge of immigration policy.

But the state budget authorizing the program specifies that “unauthorized aliens” are supposed to be flown from “this state” of Florida — not any other state — and Republicans who crafted the program this year said publicly that Venezuelans seeking asylum are not considered “unauthorized aliens” because they're allowed to be in this country."

The stunt managed to highlight the hypocrisy of the situation. How our asylum system has been gamed and nobody seems to care. That the problem is reaching heights that are deathly hilarious. Those who refuse to look have been forced to look. And the people involved are thanking him, at least those not tricked into filing phony suits on their behalf in a fundraising effort.

50 people baking to death. Nothing. 50 going on a days vacation to Martha’s Vineyard. An outrage. The terribleness doesn’t seem equivalent.

Just as others see callousness and recklessness, you will see what you want. And as noble a goal as it is to own the libs “highlight” the hypocrisy of certain people to people who already are convinced of their hypocrisy, that doesn't get us any closer to any kind solution. Just gets people feeling superior at the cost of their own decency.

And when more people die in a sweltering truck next month or next year or five years from now, as happened in June and in 2017 and in 2003 — never mind the countless people who die daily, but more quietly — will it be fair to ask whether dehumanizing stunts like this make it just a little bit easier to ignore those burned bodies? We do know that hanging those deaths on one party, or one politician, certainly won't fix it. When in fact most every national politician and even many border-state politicians — from Abbott to Biden to countless more before them — bears at least some responsibility. (Gov. Coyote gets a pass here, you know, since he doesn't run a border state. He just runs for president.)

At some point, we're going to get serious about this and not just use the immigrants' lives as a blunt instrument to bash the other party with. Gov. Coyote did not get us closer to that point.

50 people die in the heat because government sucks at immigration and 50 people in housing being moved around by government under false pretense (I feel like there could be a word for that, something about children sleeping for a short period, if I did this) certainly are not equivalent.  Glad you acknowledge that.  Now spike the football, you sure "highlighted the hypocrisy" alright.

We’re going to get serious about this? When? Who is going to start voting for that and stop voting for what’s going on? Let’s stop trying to spread blame around because it’s suddenly in everyone’s face. The real outrage here is that Governor Coyote, as you call him here, put it in everyone’s face. It’s not his fault that people won’t look at the problem or admit there is a problem or recognize they will continue behaving like there is not problem. Crocodile tears about humanity ran out quickly as soon as the migrants were transferred to one of the richest places in the country.

We won’t ever get serious about this until people are made to care. If this is any indication it’s going to take a lot more work for that to happen.

It’s true that being shipped to a place filled with awful hypocrites and then booted to a federal facility as soon as possible sucks, but so does the whole process of illegal immigration. Burning to death, however, hurts the whole time you’re dying.

It's Friday afternoon MST and Ron DeSantis is still a fvcking little prick.

Ironic that the short-lived, evil Family Separation Policy of the former administration can actually trace some roots to a former acting ICE director who earlier in his career was deeply moved by his role in the discovery of one of those horrible mass deaths in a trailer in Texas.   He wanted to do right, by the accounts of this in-depth report that smalltown linked some  months back (iirc). The guy got the incentives and cost/benefits wrong.  This summer's repeat tragedy did not occur because we have an open border.  More the opposite.

One of the better pieces of reporting I've read this year.  Not for Fox News:

he put the existence of people asking for asylum in everyone's face?

... where people treated the lost, confused migrants like they were humans? seems to me like humanity was shown as real and "crocodile tears" were shown to be actual concern.

what does this have to do with asking for asylum from a failed communist state

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

It’s among the most disgusting episodes of US history.  What’s more disgusting is the numbers of Republicans who just shrug and don’t give a shit.

You think this was serious? You think you have the solution? Because Gov. Coyote doesn’t. His interest is in the election.

Great, you realize that the border is deadly. You think this is all Biden’s doing or the Martha’s Vineyard crowd? And if so, do you think it was him being soft on the border, or because he continues to use things like Title 42 to make it harder to cross, Driving people to coyotes? Do you think Abbott cracking down on the border with the national guard doesn’t compel people to turn to coyotes? You think Trump’s bullshit didn’t do the same? You think DeSantis has a clue? A good portion of us have lived a lot closer to the border than he has. I don’t need a lecture from an overly ambitious clown in Florida about what happens on the border any more than I need him to show me that rich Northeasterners don’t quite get it.

You can roll your eyes @smltwnrckr and applaud stunts. But he’s a lot closer to the truth about why people turn to coyotes than anything DeSantis is trying to peddle.

We don’t need awareness created by reckless stunts. We need serious people and Florida man ain’t one of em.
