I think they use the same ones every time. They don't change very often.

right...but is that how folks actually buy?

not me, I'm not married to any particular brand names, and I menu plan and buy almost entirely based upon what's on sale/special in any particular week

My new Smith's ad came yesterday:

Do you understand how inflation is computed? Certain items are omitted like, energy and food. The calc is a joke to start with and then when the dems start cherry picking things even further it's even more of a joke. Like you

You're talking about Core CPI.

That is a lot of assumptions for happyidiot to make about me. That is why I won't engage with him on this forum, he will not engage in good faith, and is completely dishonest.

I have had a tough road to get where I am at,. Maybe, happyidiot had it worse, but I don't make assumptions like he does.

Assumptions!? Born you told us when you bought your house on this forum (in the '90s), how you had to scrimp and save for years for the down payment, how you work in accounting, and how you live in Idaho, going to a public university as the first in your family not expected to go to college.

100% of the things I mentioned came from things you have deliberately shared about yourself in various threads, generally to make a point.

It doesn't have anything to do with whether you had a tough road to get where you are at. It has to do with you not saying a peep about the water boiling for most Americans for the last 20 years, and then all of the sudden caring about working people in the last year when the prices that are changing affect your pocket book.

It makes it look like what you care about is your pocketbook. Sure, that's fine - at the end of the day, everyone cares about their own pocketbook the most. But you cloak it in faux concern about how hard it is for Americans out here!!!!!!

Born its been tough since well before february 2021 lmao. it's been getting tougher for the whole time you've been on the board, but you didn't post about it until inflation at the grocery store made you notice it a tiny bit. If you had mentioned it before hand? sure, I'd buy your concern. If you talked about how inflation at the grocery store affects more people than just housing increases (which is also very regional), medical increases (which affect sick people), or education cost increases (which in theory affect people who will make more anyway), sure. But you don't. you frame it all as if you realized people have been being squeezed for like 14 months total and that it's all commodity inflation. Again... it's the combo that makes me at least roll my eyes at you.

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

Food, gas, appliances for example, literally twice to three times as much.

food? food is not "double". it's about 30% for most things. some are higher, some are unchanged. beer? basically unchanged. ground beef? higher.

gas? gas is not "double" lol. gas at its peak was abotu 4.30 here.... it may have been double compared to the covid bust, but compared to july 2019? even at its peak, around 60%. and it is well below its peak now, nearly a dollar off its peak here.

appliances? how many appliances ya buying, bob? you in for that 2 refrigerator a month plan? for that matter, they aren't double lol. they're a little bit higher. bad example. are you buying higher end appliances?

The zero percent that was referenced was month to month from June-July. You brought up prices being higher than 2 years ago.....No shit. Inflation has been bad. The question is, is it slowing down? It appears to be but we will have to see.

Is this not what "inflation" is when the White House, the media, etc. talks about it??

core is not the same thing as the headline figure. when people are saying the month over month figure didn't increase, they're referring to the headline figure. core was up slightly

Literally, it's not.  Gas peaked pre-pandemic at 2.94 and was 2.63 when COVID hit the shores ( shoot, under Obama and Bush II it was below $2 AND over $4).  So twice that would be 5.26 to 5.88.  Never got close to that nationally (peaked at 5.03).  And while your actual price may vary, I just filled up at 3.11.

Yeah, I actually do, dumbass. Do you know what the word “hyperbolic” means?  You should. You GOP nut-jobs use that sort of vernacular all day long, but maybe the nuance eludes you…

And what about the word “doubled?”  Also not a terribly difficult concept, but then again maybe it is for you…

Prices are definitely up, but show me the evidence where prices for goods and services have “doubled” in the last two years “Yeah, most goods and most services have doubled in the last twoyears”.

JFC, do you have any concept of how the “doubling” of something varies from the increase that a few percentage points represents?  I guess not, Mr. Mathematician. Hence, my prior comment in that regard…

I know I’m in for a real long wait here, but if you attempt to cite some “doubling” examples, please, try and make it an actual reputable reference, like CPI or the Bureau of Labor Statistics, etc. Captain Kangaroo re-runs don’t count…

wtf are you talking about. Roughly twice as much since brandon has been in office, moron

Wrong again...moving the goalposts doesnt always work.  But that's ok...we'll go with your timeframe.  Got no problem with that.

week of 1/25/2021 (when Biden was inaugurated) - 2.478.  Never mind that prices were already trending up. So 2x would be 4.956

week of 8/8/2022 - 4.151 (And coming down).

Of course...people of reasonable intelligence know that gas prices are a function of the world oil markets, not anything local.

It looks like happykaren is having a really bad day or something. But to cheer him up, looking at the July numbers, his ego-inflation hit a 6 month high of 12%. Great job happykaren!!

After that bad injury to my pancreas several years ago and the following bouts of pancreatitis, blueberries are a staple of my diet.  Not a better food in the world for healing your pancreas.  They also slow down aging and help inflation.
