I certainly wouldn't want to be Pence's campaign manager and staff. Trying to sort through which of Trump's base wanted him hung or would actually support him.

Most of Trump's base can't read or write so it's probably hard to get accurate data.

And Sandy Berger, a Clinton staffer, was charged with taking classified documents from the National Archives.  He did it in 2003 so not quite the same but still was charged.  Plead guilty to misdemeanor and paid a 50k fine.  And he didn’t take them directly from the White House on his way out the door. 

Also on the note of subpoenas... Trump kinda has a history of refusing to comply with them. He's been held in contempt for not doing it, he's said that he'll "fight all subpoenas". So yeah, a subpoena wouldn't have done a damn bit of good anyway.
