You got me on a Jason Isbell thing. Lol.

I didn't do the fan bike (did get a PR on my SkiERG) so I didn't listen to Weathervanes until I drove over to take care of my youngest's cat (vacationing).  Love it already.  Now, I'm watching the docu on Max. "Running With Our Eyes Closed" and sipping some rum cask bourbon -- my cat sitting fee.

Opioid addiction:

Listened to the album on my driver earlier today and I like it a lot better today.

I'm sure Justin Townes Earle's death was hard on Jason.  They were known to hit it hard earlier in their careers together off stage.  For Jason to get sober and see Justin lose his life had to be tough.

Yeh, some deep, sad yet beautiful songs on this album.  I was just kind of getting into Justin Townes when he committed suicide.  Being an old guy perhaps the range of themes and an older Jason are really suiting my tastes.  It's about all I've listened to this past week.  Just got me through another hard 7k tt on the SkiERG and now listening more on the dumbbell bench.  I like Weathervanes more each play.  It's bumped Joe Ely and Reckless Kelly off my workout music.

It's one really fvcking good album.  Jason is right there on about everything w/that solid, solid band.  Love the final 7 mt. track w/long bridge and short final refrain.  It's not my story, but I really get "Miles":

Lot of talk about Weathervanes, and deservedly so.  But Southeastern is probably my favorite album of the last fifteen years, and I listen to a lot of music. The album after that, Something more than free, is fantastic as well.

If you like a little edgier stuff, the band he joined , Drive by Truckers, is almost a little punk in their approach.

After listening to the album a lot since I last posted, I have definitely changed my tune.  Great, great album.  I really enjoy the tone/sonic aspect of the album for lack of a better term.

The writing and subject matter are superb. I wrote earlier about the song about Townes, that one has really stuck with me as I think about all of the reckless/dumb stuff I did when I was younger.  While I haven't had any friends due, I've had a lot that just can't get out of their own way and you wish they would change but know they won't. I thank my lucky stars that I was able to put it all behind and live a fulfilling life, but sometimes you think why could I, but why couldn't they?

I think a lot of people struggle to self produce their records but he pulled it off on this one in a big way.  It is a nice departure from the previous Dave Cobb produced records and  the one by Matt Pence.

The 400 Unit is great band as well like you mention.  Something about those players from Muscle Shoals.

83F° at 10:30 pm on the back patio after a few brews and a couple splashes of brandy, I put on Jerry Jeff's Viva Terlingua now 50 years from recording in Luckenback.  Finale:

Gettin By is the first song I heard by Jerry Jeff and I was hooked.

Had to attend to some business in East County, and ended up making a 50-60 mile lap before returning home. Played this shit on loop for the whole trip. Why? Because I'm not sick but I'm not well.

I finally uploaded my ~500 CD collection to a USB drive (garage cleaning and came across the crates). So, everything from Zapp and Roger to The Cure to Beastie Boys to Mile Davis to A Tribe Called Quest to Joy Division to My Vitriol to Bloc Party to Caifanes to Jaylib to local/indie artists and so much more. I love having my car stereo set to random.

Caught Mountain Stage this afternoon on BSU radio.  Ray Wylie Hubbard was the longer, final guest.  Replay show from a few years back.  He got better with age. Plenty of age.  This was one of the songs played.  Title track from '18 w/Eric Churh and Lucinda Williams on back up/harmony vocals.  Pretty good music vid, too:

Thank you!  Love this!  Have had this song on rotation for years but had never seen the video.  Will take a lot of will power to not go down a rabbit hole later tonight.

That song is also prone to loops in the SAMO household…lol

Still almost 100F°, but in the evening shade outside.   My BFAM, SAMO on the sports B0arD, reminded me of the opening and short track of Todd Snider's 2004 East Nashville Skyline album.  So I put it on while enjoying a Brandy Classic cocktail.   Every track is solid.  Could pick others, but  I think this Fred Eaglesmith cover is the best version of the song (Alcohol and Pills), and sort of goes w/the theme.

I've been doing a lot of night driving the last few weeks, so I opened up my modern synthwave list. I love The Midnight.
