figured you might like it based on some of the songs I've seen you share

The old famous quote of Steve Earle goes like this : “Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world, and I’ll stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.”  Earle wasn't literal as later explained, but Townes probably was the closest thing to a Bob Dylan - Hank Williams synthesis as we've seen.  Even his lifespan fits.

made me pick up my guitar...haven't played in awhile

Great documentary. I've only watched through once or twice, but have seen many clips over and over.  The old black guy, Uncle Seymour, born the son of a slave, iirc, had a rough life.  After the end of Pancho and Lefty, this song is mentioned.  Uncle Seymour gets emotional in the film as Townes does this one:

Thank God for this post bump. This forum needs it.

Dave Alvin (Blasters) song that capped a great 1992 Joe Ely album.  Put it on driving home a bit ago.  A very underrated song and version.

Started on the new Jason Isbell album tonight.  This one might take a few spins to get into, which isn't the norm for his albums usually.

I need to get into him.  Like what I've heard.  He came in w/group then solo in a busy time of life. So much good music.  So little time.  I loved the Todd Snider/Jerry Jeff late life live version of Mr. Bojangles w/Jason and the lady.  No link for now.

He has some great stuff.  Southeastern is probably his most acclaimed album but he has put out a lot of solid content.

I prefer this version of Decoration Day over The Truckers version when Jason was there.

I just heard he's going to be on All Things Considered later today. I'll link if I remember after it's up on NPR.

@Wyobraska ...here's that link. I have not listened to it yet, but I figured it was about that new album.

Edit: Listened and enjoyed.  Might need to watch that docu on HBO? (Max?).  Film role in a Scorsese flick up next.  Impressive.

Just put on Weathervanes now.  First track playing.

I need to check out the NPR and spin this a few more times.  Have a drive coming up on Monday that would probably be perfect for the album..

You got me on a Jason Isbell thing. Lol.

I didn't do the fan bike (did get a PR on my SkiERG) so I didn't listen to Weathervanes until I drove over to take care of my youngest's cat (vacationing).  Love it already.  Now, I'm watching the docu on Max. "Running With Our Eyes Closed" and sipping some rum cask bourbon -- my cat sitting fee.

Opioid addiction:
