Former San Jose State running back DeJon Packer, who scored the winning touchdown in the Spartans 2019 upset victory against Arkansas, past away unexpectedly. Really sad news for the SJSU football family. Packer had recently started his career in law enforcement with the SJPD. His last carry for the Spartans was also a game winner, in the 2019 season finale against Fresno State.

The following story is a link from the Mercury News.  This young man also excelled off of the field.  He was a SJSU Dean's Scholar and was a two time all MWC Academic Honoree.  Very sad news.

Damn, from that article, it sounded like a man that came from lesser means joining the police to help his community by example.  Always sucks to lose people just starting out with that sense of personal compass.
