Even after 77 bodies?

If he's irredeemable, then give him 5 mg fentanyl.  No sense spending $30,000 years on incarceration/treatment.

If he's capable of being re-integrated into society (I don't think this guy is), then spend that $30k per year to make him a better person, not on inhumane punishment. Society shouldn't be the purveyors of hell.

Kind of there point of being a christian is to forgive...right?  The real point of prison is to make sure there is no future danger to people.   It is not to keep people locked up forever or the rest of their lives.

Would you ponder an economic and risk analysis between life in prison, a bullet to the ear, or back on the streets in this scenario?

They shouldn’t make it hell, but it should be miserable enough to be a strong deterrent.

Sociopathy and psychopathy aren't curable and generally don't have a lot of treatment options. Not sure in this guys case you'd ever make him not a danger to society.

I’ll bet if someone killed and tortured your loved ones, the concept of “punishment”, “justice” and “deterrent” might knock around in that echo chamber of yours.

Yeah Norway is really a lawless place. 94 gun deaths in 2021 while we had only 40,175.

What a completely stupid and worthless stat.

Per your link, Firearm related deaths per 100k is nearly 2 for Norway and 12 for the US…..compared to 60 for Honduras. Norway doesn’t have hundreds of big cities with urban gang warfare and crime. Norway also has one of the strictest gun control systems in the world. With very limited 2nd Amendment rights and no gangs, I’m surprised that those 2 numbers are that close.

That's not how criminal minds work though. Criminals pretty much universally think they are too smart to get caught so the consequence isn't even an option in their minds.

Oh sure he will. When he gets older and gets 5 year reviews as a more feeble older man, of course he’ll get out. It’s very rare for them to hold anyone past 21 years for murder. It won’t take a lot to convince a very lenient parole board that he’s too and mellow to be a “menace” to society, as in Denise the Menace. Not a good translation in English.

All of the Nordic countries have pathetic justice systems like this. And even the most horrific criminals are treated like they’re on vacation. Think about what these stupid parole hearings do to the survivors. They know how lenient their system is, and they have to re-live it every time he has a chance to get out.

“Convicted mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik spends his days in a spacious three-room cell, playing video games, exercising, watching TV and taking university-level courses in mathematics and business.

Halfway through a 21-year sentence and seeking early release, Breivik, 42, is being treated in a way that might seem shocking to people outside of Norway, where he killed eight in an Oslo bombing in 2011, and then stalked and gunned down 69 people, mostly teens, at a summer camp.

But here — no matter how wicked the crime — convicts benefit from a criminal justice system that is designed to offer prisoners some of the comforts and opportunities of life on the outside.“

He can be incarcerated indefinitely, there’s no way they will ever release him. Especially considering he’s clearly not remorseful.

So gun laws work?

That would only be serving 1.5 months for murdering each person. He won’t get parole, but his Maximum sentence is only 21 years, so the max he will serve for each murder is 3.2 months.

This is a classic example as to why so many on the right never ever, ever want to be like a typical European country as many on the left do. European Socialism is bad enough, then you get really bizarre justice systems, as well.

As imperfect as our justice system is, this guy would’ve been immediately dispatched to Hell, or at least sent over to Orygun’s house.

There are certainly people who need to be put away to protect society.   That is the point.....
