US Response to Russian Invasion of Ukraine

64 members have voted

  1. 1. What should the US response to a Russian invasion of Ukraine be?

    • Nuke 'em
    • Full conventional military response, troops, tanks, fighters etc take part in defense of Ukraine
    • Air/missile strikes against key Russian military targets
    • Economic embargo of Russia
    • Economic sanctions against Russia
    • Cutoff diplomatic relations with Russia
    • Nothing.

A solid thread and worthwhile read discussing a pivot in Russian tactics in the Donbas, which likely accounts for their recent successes:

Short term gains it appears.

I have no reason to believe Russia will figure out any long term strategy to complete their objectives. I think they'll have spotty gains here and there because war is always deadly but the writing was already on the wall in the first weeks of the war.

It's a simple war of attrition at this point. Without an efficient or realistic way to repair damaged equipment and the lack of ability to create new equipment including the software and chips required, their war machine will grind to a halt sooner than later, I hope. Add in, all the casualties of what they considered "trained" soldiers. Everything they say is a lie. I highly doubt they have anything worth mentioning in reserve.

Russian incompetence( @TheSanDiegan's term of: Dept of Lulz fits perfectly here) might be the biggest ally Ukraine has. Just below getting NATO weapons.  Now we just need a real coup at the Kremlin.

Can't forget all the military factories and connected railways with trains "mysteriously" going up in flames.

I'm not sure a coup will change much. A lot of the military wants to go full bore into Ukraine with mass mobilization and death penalty for deserters.

You're probably right.  When it comes to Russia anymore, I basically have zero faith for a good future. Corruption and brainwashing is just too deep.

It's in their blood. They deposed the czar for losing in WW1, and the replacement govt wanted to keep fighting.

Lots of ifs on what I'm going to say but if their economy, military and trading partner relationships are devastated after their war, the lesser of the two evils would be they are no longer a world player. But then there's always their Nuke threats and supply.

Finland doesn't need NATO to be able to defend itself from a Russian invasion as it's clearly quite capable of kicking the Russkies' ass all by itself.

Which is why most of the world laughed when they were shaking their sword on taking control or threatening more of Europe after everyone saw how bad it's going for them in Ukraine. Obviously nukes are a deal changer but I'm not sure many countries, especially NATO countries fear the paper tiger conventional Russian military.

Russia is in a pickle because they can't back fill materials & machinery -- Not sure they have the manufacturing materials or capabilities & if they do, the series of graft will need to be curtailed to make if effective

Only only takes a few to cause massive problems but it makes you wonder how many of their suggested 6500 or so nukes are actually in working condition or even maintained? I agree too on selling to the highest bidder. That's all the world needs is for these to be going to problem countries or corrupt regimes at a 70% discount.

My apologies if this has been covered but it is so f*cking deplorable and reprehensible it deserves another mention if it has.

I'm sure Russia's version of our VA will be there to comfort the soldiers that come home and their families on the trauma of war.  I'm sure they'll also make a legit head counting effort of all their soldiers that weren't lucky enough to get tossed in their mobile crematorium trucks.  LOL.

These pukes don't care about anything but propaganda.

I have mentioned before Meduza is an independent Russian news source currently operating out of Latvia.

So, the plan is to throw more poorly trained conscripts with low morale, low supplies, and outdated tech against trained, highly motivated, and constantly supplied forces?

Its like watching WWI all over again. Leading up to the October Revolution.

In the article one of the sources says they just need to wait for Europe to get weary or need energy supplies:

"Additionally, Kremlin officials are skeptical that Western nations can sustain their massive financial and military support to Ukraine if the war drags on. “Sooner or later, Europe will tire of helping. This is both money and arms production that they need for themselves. Closer to the fall, they’ll have to negotiate [with Russia] on gas and oil, before the cold season arrives,” one source told Meduza."
