Fresno State gets 4* commit!!

The Fresno State men's basketball team's headline 2022 commitment inked his decision with the Bulldogs on Thursday. Fresno (Calif.) San Joaquin Memorial 4-Star shooting guard Joseph Hunter Jr. signed with his hometown team during the national signing period.

Hunter is a 6-foot-5 guard who ranks as one of the nation's Top 100 recruits. The local prospect turned down an impressive list of scholarship offers to commit to his hometown school. His offers reportedly included Nebraska, USC, Washington, Arkansas, Cal, Illinois, Ole Miss, San Diego State, TCU, UTEP, Washington State and Loyola Marymount.

Hunter told 247Sports at the time of his commitment, “They (Fresno State) were my first offer and I took that seriously for sure because after I got that first offer, it gave me hope that I can be nice, play in the league, and get my family out of here basically. They always stayed loyal, always stayed down and kept a relationship with me so that was most important.”

It's Official.

Hunter has a 93 score in the 4-Star tier by 247Sports. He is ranked as 247Sports’ No. 64 recruit in the nation, is the No. 5 shooting guard nationally and the No. 8 recruit from California.

“I'm bringing leadership and will be a strong guard,” he said. “I'm going to be playing the point over there so I'm just going to bring energy and win. When I get there the fans can expect a lot of energy and a lot of wins. We are going to win a lot of games, go to the tournament and hopefully win the national championship."

Hunter is the only current Bulldog commit in Fresno State's 2022 men's basketball recruiting class. The Bulldogs are expected to have a small class with no super seniors on the roster. This year's team has two seniors who can return for an extra year due to the 2020 COVID waiver.

In the industry-generated Composite rankings, Hunter’s .9487 score is the third-best in Fresno State history (in the online scouting era dating back to the early 2000s). Fellow San Joaquin Memorial graduate Robert Upshaw tops that list - he played one season for Fresno State in 2012-13. Hector Hernandez is No. 2 - The 2004 signee was a three-year starter with nearly 10 points per game in his final three seasons. The Bulldogs' 4-Star commits include Edison High School signee Greg Smith in 2009, who went on to play four seasons in the NBA after two years at Fresno State. The online scouting efforts date back to the early 2000s.

"Frankly my dear..I don't give a damn"!

Get his “family out of here?”  That’s not a flattering quote.

You know things suck in Fresberg when the local recruit says he has hope of being successful so he can get his family out of there.
