I'm going to assume Nevada doesn't blow this.

Tier 1: True Contenders

1. Fresno State- While Haener's play has come back down to earth the last couple of weeks the defense has stepped up.

2. Nevada- Carson Strong continues to play well and Nevada has an explosive offense, but the defense gives me a bit of pause.

3. SDSU- The defense is as good as ever and the QB play is as bad as ever. Not much else to say

4. AFA- Can see case for them bit higher. Defense has been a pleasant surprise and they can still really run the ball even when you know what's coming.

Tier 2: The they aren't out of it yet group

5. Colorado State- Who expected CSU to be leading the mountain at this point? There are still questions to be had with an offense with inconsistent QB play and a iffy run game

6. Boise State- They are still really talented, but at some point production needs to match the talent. Margin for error is miniscule with already 2 conference losses.

Tier 3: We don't know who you are

7. Wyoming- Wyoming's defense has come to life last couple of weeks as the offense has been sleeping. What happened to the offense that dominated the first 2 weeks?

8. SJSU: Need their starting QB back desperately

9. Utah State

Tier 4: Yeah you guys are bad

10. Hawaii

Tier 5 yiiiiikes

11. UNLV

12. UNM

These rankings will really start to take shape after next week. Fresno vs Nevada and Air Force vs SDSU. In my mind those are the top 4 teams in the conference. For 3 out of 4 of the teams it is basically a must win (the only team that could afford losing the game and still controlling their destiny is SDSU).

Head and Shoulders Above the Rest:

1. Nevada

Bowl Eligible:

2. AFA - Moving on up !

3. Aztecs - How good could they be with an FBS qb ?

Contenders:

4. Fres-no - One tough game down. Four to go.

5. UTags - when they're good they're good. When they're bad....

6. CSU - In contention but the schedule is murder.

On the cusp of elimination:

7. Boy-z

8. Sparty

9. Hawa'ii - Tough on the Rock. Not so much on the mainland.

10. Wy -o-why can't they play to their potential ?

1. San Diego St--They have the usual problem but them are getting it to work for them.

2. Nevada--Slow starts again and defense is can be up and down. The more difficult part of their schedule is coming up.

3. Air Force--They have been under the radar for a bit and now with the Boise St win they are out there but huge game next week.

4. Fresno St--Defense is OK, except for that UNLV game, their offense has been all over the place. Big game this week

5. Boise St--Back and forth depending on the week. Still a good teams at times.

6.  Utah St--They are getting by with some wins. They have some big games coming up and some consistancy will be good.

7. Wyoming--Very good defense, but seems to have hit the roadblock.

8. Colorado St--moving on up. Is this team better than they were showing earlier or are they beating the teams they should be beating?

9. Hawaii--Injuries are piling up but they are competitive against schools and does have that victory against Fresno St.

10. San Jose St--They are showing some signs of life but really from MWC champs to this?

11. New Mexico--WTF?!?!? All that early excitement has disappeared.

12. UNLV--You Got to win to Move

Going with:

Nevada:  good qb

AF: Good team

FSU

BSU

SDSU: will lose because of QB

Colorado State: Coming on strong

Hawaii: Looking better

USU

Wyoming: QB issues like SDSU

SJSU

UNLV: looking better. QB out though?

UNM

O-line too. For a group composed entirely of veterans, they struggle (badly) in pass protection, and have had issues in run blocking (even when the defense isn't loading the box). RBs are fine, and Neyor is a dangerous deep threat with a couple of good TEs and WRs, but QB and o-line have been... problematic.

We will be lucky to keep Neyor after this year unless the coaching staff actively goes out and finds a real passing QB.  Our running back corps will be very inexperienced and our "veteran O-line" will be gone.  This was the year that Bohl needed to put up or shut up and it looks like he was making claims with that alligator mouth that his canary ass couldn't deliver.
