Manchin/Sinema Squeeze

It looks like Bernie is going to play "bad cop" with an Oped in WV.   AOC and the other folks have absolutely nothing to lose by attacking these two clowns.

Unfortunately, Manchin has nothing to lose by responding in kind. The same can't be said for Sinema. Her reelection is in serious jeopardy

I’m not sure either lose over Bernie’s plan.  But if the US defaults because both refused to reform (not eliminate) the filibuster they will lose the independents.

That is why Schumer needs to publicly announce that he's putting these two "Republican Whisperers" in charge of coming up with a bi partisan solution to the debt ceiling impasse since they won't reform the filibuster with 50 votes.  Let them and Mitch all sweat together.   Democrats can't blink for the sake if the nation.  If congress fails we can't let the narrative be it was Democrats who were to blame.   It was insurrectionists and "bought and paid for" politicians. Kissing these twos asses hasn't worked so we may as well start throwing tomatos.

Can you imagine how shitty things are going to get for Sinema it she runs as a Democrat in 2024 on the same ticket with the same president whose legislation she tanked without even saying why? Biden can just endorse and campaign against her in her primary while he barnstorms AZ.

Manchin has literally nothing to lose. Sinema does. Republicans won’t be able to save her in a primary. As an incumbent she will still clearly have the advantage, but it won’t be easy. If she gets an establishment Latino challenger that is just left enough for the Bernie/Squad fundraising machine to back them, she could be in trouble.

It’s one thing to piss off the left, it’s entirely another to piss of the left AND party leadership.

Crap even moderates are concerned with the filibuster.

Regularly scheduled call from reality

Now proceed with the regularly scheduled fantasizing.

Wrong.  Manchin is pure evil, cause he won't let them fundamentally change the US to match what 25-30% of people want while disregarding what 60-75% of everyone else wants.  Progress over everything!!!!!

At least people have given up the notion that he could be squeezed by threatening his committee positions. That’s progress.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

All they are going to do is push him to switch parties. That's not going to get them what they want.  He's got a point that dumping 3.5 trillion into the economy right now is a bad idea. 5 trillion if you don't buy the dynamic scoring they use.  They aren't going to pull that much out in taxes for atleast a couple years.  And while subsidizing child care seems like a great idea it will over burden an already strained market and drive up costs, just like subsidizing colleges has.

It’s really quite comical. They have to get all these things done at once, that they swear are very popular except that somehow they’re going to be out of power for the foreseeable future because the other party is somehow going to suppress the vote. Meanwhile, the other party’s ex-president is telling his own voters not vote.

You can’t help but laugh a little. Let’s go Brandon.

Thats another thing, if you were really that worried about the other party completely destroying democracy wouldn't you I don't know maybe update or enhance the 1887 Electoral Count Act that supposedly dealt with states submitting multiple and differing electors.  But they aren't doing that, they just want to federalize the whole system in a process they know won't get past the senate.

Revising a law doesn’t pound the panic button like impending Jim Eagle does.

1.9 trillion earlier this year. 500 billion in infrastructure. Manchin will give them another 1.5 trillion in whatever goodies they agree on. They just can’t take the win because they think Bernie is the future. And the leader of their party seems perfectly fine with that. But that’s not reality.

The best part of this is none of the Bernie Bros actually want to pay for that level of a social safety net.  They are only willing to pay an extra $1k per year to have the same system as Scandinavian countries.  Just tax the rich and corporations to cover it....

Um yeah that's not going to cut it, not even taking into account that the businesses will pass along added costs.  You have to tax the middle class at 40-50% to make that workable and that's with significant cuts to military and other expenditures.

I appreciate him and like what he is doing. It is not good for society to pay people not to work. He really should just switch to the R side now though.

I find it humorous to see the Democrats fighting the same battles with Manchin that we fought with John McCain.

Wishing them nothing but the worst because they didn't pass the legislation you wanted is a bit childish.  That's politics baby.  Even compromise bills suck and that's generally how you know they were good.  Both parties feel like they got screwed.

Oh my man. Modern monetary theory is so hot right now. We don’t have to pay for anything because inflation isn’t real. We only tax the rich to limit income inequality.

Lol, I think you are joking?

Just wait until interest rates go up to fight inflation and the cost to the federal government to borrow money just to fund all the bullshit we have goes way up. Just wait until the largest item on the federal budget is interest on the debt, and the whole thing comes crashing down.
