UNLV Going to the PAC12!

UNLV, a current member of the Mountain West, might be the only viable G5 candidate as their football program is far behind the likes of Boise State and BYU, so a playoff push isn’t even on their radar, however getting into the Las Vegas market, which is only growing larger each year, would be a logical move for a conference that is clearly looking to make that region home in the very near future.

Congratulations to UNLV! The entire MWC is proud of you for your accomplishments. Undoubtedly the investments made and commitment to a top notch football program can serve as a shining example for programs all across the country.

Our football program will be quickly fixed with the additional  $28million in revenue sharing from the PAC. Multiple P5 programs have proved that. $2billion football stadium, $38million practice facility, Vegas to recruit to, Throw another $6million into staff starting with a $3-$4million HC.

Overall everything in the AD changes with that influx of $.

Dude is creative and thinking outside of the box. I give him credit. But, the Aztecs still won't be able to recruit a quarterback

He forgot one thing, The Pac Presidents and AD's will be like:

Considering you've followed us to every conference UNR has been in as D1 maybe you should want UNLV to get to the PAC. It would be the only way UNR could get there.

Yes. Such a vast collection of conferences in the west to choose from. Even a Vegas fan can do this math.

You get no water from the north. Utah and ranchers squashed that plan.

But we will.

First you need to qualify…

Any discussion about Pac-12 expansion must begin not with athletics but academics. Every Pac-12 member is a tier one research university. That’s a prestigious point of pride that no conference president would consider waiving when looking at expansion.

NOTABLE NOTE: From a TV standpoint, the Pac-12 might find more symmetry looking at UNLV and the University of Houston. Both are tier one research universities and both have big television footprints. The Houston DMA is No. 8 in the nation and Las Vegas is No. 39.

Although I'd be totally shocked myself.  Half this board would self immolate if UNLV got accepted to the PAC12.  I kind of like this idea more now.  Reno DMA may implode in a cloud of busch light beer fart clouds.

It helps that the PAC12 is looking to set up their headquarters in Las Vegas, has title games in Las Vegas etc.

Currently the conference Is headquartered in San Francisco with the annual rent being around 8 million, highest in the country.

A move would save the league a significant amount. The question is, how does UNLV generate money for the PAC12 if it is added? They don’t necessarily need UNLV since it already established ties in Las Vegas.

If UNLV ever gets a sniff from the PAC - It's going to be the Vegas package that gets it done & not just UNLV on it's own merits ........it's going to be TV market, growth in/of that market, the peripherals that LV brings as a location/destination & the immediate bump in local interest / perception / involvement in UNLV that would come with PAC membership

There's current P5 schools & programs that are now considered major players that before the insertion of TV $$ (ESPN era to today) have benefitted from the surge in TV, surge in $$ to turn around once miserable programs..........Wisconsin, Kansas St & Oregon are three that come to mind.........all were pretty much crap from the 60's to late 80's & then got going in the $$ / TV era

There's a lot of potential for UNLV if it were in a big $$ conference

The idea that money is going to solve your football problems just doesn’t usually pan out. It’s just like a business asking for a big business loan to get competitive. If your management is dysfunctional, a bank will discover that and refuse the loan. Uncle Rico’s All Star Quarterback Academy isn’t going to become a success just because he wins the lottery (Napoleon Dynamite All Star of a Reference).

A P5 conference brings big money, but it also brings a brutal schedule that will require a good starting line up and a lot of depth just to be a bit competitive. UNLV having success in a P5 will require converting a city of mostly 2 million out of state transplants into making them their #2 or #3 favorite college team. That requires consistent success that hasn’t even occurred playing FCS teams over the years.

Why can’t Hauck create a competitive UNLV FBS product when he can produce a product much better than UNLV’s with less money and resources? It’s because it’s administrations have always been dysfunctional and sabotage their chance for success.

A good AD isn’t enough. Your latest was supposed to be good, but she never did anything to improve athletics with the limited power she had, and she jetted to another job that was a promotion. Her new employer realized that UNLV was an impossible job and didn’t hold it against her.
