Is this akin to black lies matter(and their media handlers) protesting and burning down business in response to some thug getting shot by a police officer while thousands of blacks....including many women and children.....are murdered by other blacks in Democrat-run cities while they look away?

Then they need to come out into to the open and admit they nothing more than a business that puts out content solely on what sells to the general public, rather than the high and mighty “Gate Keepers to Democracy “ they so proudly claim to be. I believe journalists have an obligation to society as a whole, and ignoring the plight of others because “ratings” is a chickenshit argument.

I don't disagree.  It would be nice if people recognize who owns the media companies.  Even NPR, a largely public funded entity is skewed.  It is why I advocate for classes in high school that analyze media and its rhetoric.  Also, a course in personal finance, planning and budgeting would be nice too.

Hmmm. I did not state what I read. I don't go out of my way to find criticism of those outlets I mentioned. We already know which [extreme] side you stand on. Your replies to this post has been very revealing.

We already know what you "read".    You stated it without posting it.   Doofus.

And what is "extreme" that I "stand on"?    You dare to link a post of my mind that wasn't 100% based on FACTS?    Because you don't like it doesn't make it "extreme".   It just makes you mentally ill.

Newly married couple was found shot to death in Moab, Utah in a campground around the time it was confirmed Petito was there.  They have since determined there was no link but for a a while they thought the two cases could be related and the fiance was a person of interest in the double murder.

well then.

Take nothing away from a murdered kid....but there are over 700 missing indigenous females just in Wyoming.   They do not get press...not even local.

This shows how depraved your media has become.   These are the same twisted people you worship.

You trust these people to give you any truth?

I had a very similar thought about the hyper focus on this one girl. That being said, the thought that immediately followed was exactly as @halfmanhalfbronco articulated - blonde hawt white girls gone gone (BHWGGG) is ratings gold.

And that being said...

Well, if he's found not to be in connection with her death - he's headed straight for Dancing with the Stars.

That is if the gators, pussy cats, snakes and spiders haven't gotten to him already.

It's Florida, so odds are Rednecks will get him before the critters do.

Not that I know of, wouldn't doubt it though - we are the invasive capital of the US.

I was speaking of the American crocodile.

Just googled it.  Yeah, they captured three Nile River crocs between 09 and '14.  They believe they got them all.  Those mf'ers while smaller than the Salt Water crocodile are larger than the American and meaner than both.

Too far south for rednecks.

I've been to south Florida and there's still a lot of rednecks, especially in the swamp area towns.

The media largely ignores the stories of missing brown girls even though they have the power to change the narrative. Why not give both the air time they deserve? If the media truly gave a damn about society at large both stories would get equal time. The ratings argument lets them off the hook too easily.

I like capitalism and think the internet blames it for "life things".

But... the reason for this one is capitalism. White girl in peril sells more. It's probably even a self-perpetuating cycle at this point rather than solely consumer driven.

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

A lot of broad criticisms on "the media" here, which is always cathartic. And I agree with a lot of what has been said here. But the rest of what I am about to say will be cheered on enthusiastically, I'm sure. First, these sensational kinds of stories have always been (If you think this coverage has been over the top, try the Lindbergh baby.) If anything media outlets have gotten better at covering minority issues. Like a lot better. Which is a small consolation, because most are still profoundly bad at it. But there was a time not too long ago when black men hung from trees and it wasn't news at all and missing Native American girls wouldn't even make it into the local newspaper as a brief. So let's not do too much opining for the good old days.

But a couple of things to note here. If you're complaining about cable news being, well, cable news, I've got news for you. This is their model. Has been since the late 1990s, and it wouldn't succeed if people didn't lap it up. Don't complain about Nancy Grace. She's not a journalist. The only reason anyone knows her name is because they decided that murderporn is entertaining. I don't watch that shit. I don't watch any cable news, Dateline NBC, or whatever garbage that is pushed out on the airwaves. And I suggest you do the same. But if you do watch it, you are supporting this stuff, whether you think you are or not.

Secondly, a quick look on the front of the web pages for the most respected national newspapers, the New York Times, Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal, and at the moment I can't find a single thing about this story. (That's not to say the NYT hasn't covered the story. They have. But you have to dig deeper to find it.) Looking at The Atlantic, I get the same results. NPR's lead story is about this, but it's not the angle you might think. I look at the front pages of the local newspapers of the last three cities I have lived in, The Bulletin in Bend, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and the Reno Gazette-Journal — none of which should be considered the peak of diverse reporting by any means — and not a mention on any of their from pages. But the story is everywhere on social media, which is designed to put your interests in front of you. So yes, the media you choose does matter.

And finally, for those who think that journalists should care despite it being a business. Well, they do. Or at least most of them do. But they have to feed their family just like anyone else. And the majority of veteran journalists, most of whom made their livings in print, no longer have a viable place to work. The newspaper business model collapsed, and while there are still little enclaves in the media ecosphere producing good journalism, nothing has filled the vacuum.

Yeah, but that's not where he supposedly is.

Not nearly enough Cracker Barrels or Waffle Houses per mile to be considered prime redneck real estate.
