It’s a tough situation. We can’t do nothing, or we and the world will be the target of extremely well trained terrorists in big numbers. You can’t let terrorist military get established out in the open. So it’s a given we’ll always be bombing the shit out of them.

I think we need at least one base there with a few thousand troops to train soldiers, offer weapons to citizens and their military wanting to fight the Taliban. Using the base, intelligence can be obtained from trusted sources about Taliban activity and use aircraft to destroy them. The guys on the base wouldn’t be deployed off the base to fight unless it was a secret SEAL type mission or if attacked.

If we do nothing, we’ll be right back there again.

Gearing up for another commie scare and war across the globe to stop the spread of communism?  (islamic terrorists this time). Going to be some massive tax increases to pay for that one.  Can't put it all in debt like Bush did.

And support of the Saudis is a whole 'nother shit stain on our reputation.

Cut the use of oil so we can produce what we need and screw off to that part of the world.

not to thread-nap but in Vietnam we, (of course), were on the wrong side there too.

After WW 2 Ho Chi Mihn offered for Vietnam to be a friendly  buffer state against Red China if the US helped them diplomatically get France out. The US refused because French were buddies .  ...then later ... 58,000+ US  combat deaths....more traumatized vets.

Ho Chi Mihn had traveled around US when he was a kid. Was a bakery helper in Boston.

We spent 20 years trying to get the Afghan National Army up to speed. It’s never going to happen. We wasted American blood and treasure trying to train those clowns up. The ANA never once executed a combat operation on their own. We had to hold their hand every time they left the wire. If they don’t have the will to protect their country, why the hell should we risk another Soldier or Marine for them?

It’s idiots like you with your head up your butt that allowed 911 to happen. There always has to be a fatality at an intersection before a stop light is put in. It’s people like you that fight the need for the stop light “oh, what a waste of time and money, there’s never going to be a horrible accident or if there was one, it was a one time thing and will never happen again.

You people just don’t get it. We will have to be at war with Islamic Extremists forever. Doing nothing doesn’t work you idiot. We already learned that lesson except for people like you. Do you think they’re going to stop because they haven’t hit us in a while here?

We can fight there or fight them here. If we fight them here, our way of life will change dramatically.

As we’ve been maintaining things the last few years, it’s not costing us much money and not many lives. In Iraq and Afghanistan, we’ve lost over 7,000 troop. In all of 2019 we only lost 20 men in combat operations. In 2020 just 10. In 2021 there haven’t been any. You guys watch these war movies and think we’re still spending a fortune in $ and lives, and it’s not true. It needs to remain the same or we’ll lose all the progress we made.

Trump, Biden, etc all think it is time to get out of there,

We have made zero progress in Afghanistan.  It was a mirage that evaporated quickly. We have changed no minds or hearts there.  The local tribes flip sides at the drop of a coin.  We have spent 6.4 trillion in these never ending wars and IRAN is stronger is just taking al quada's place in the terrorism world. Pakistan is letting them hide just over the border.  It is not winnable and a failed strategy that drags on forever.  Next we will be doing the same thing in Africa, then Asia and pretty soon we are the worlds police

There isn’t anyone stupider than you. I should have used “compatible” rather “similar”, but I think you knew that’s what I was getting at. When you’re as dumb as you, you have to go for any opportunity you can to catch someone else making a mistake so you don’t look so bad making them all the time.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. No idea. You think we’re supposed to come up with some brilliant cure or we’re screwed and we should go home.

You keep going back to the past. Hello? We haven’t been doing what you keep going back to in quite a while. It doesn’t solve Afghanistan’s problems and that’s not our mission anymore. Our mission is to prevent an open safe haven for terrorist bases and to prevent these POS from growing in big numbers.

It’s management. There’s no cure, so you manage and contain it just like you do with any problem you can’t cure. We have to have a small group there anyway to gather intelligence from trusted informants so we can fight it in the air rather than the ground. Drones can do a lot of it, and those are very cost effective.

WTF do you not understand about this?

Bomb the shit out of them until you get regime change.  As much as Clinton was a POS person he was a competent President and his approach in Serbia worked well unless your an American walking around Serbia late at night

Where did you learn this bullshit about Ho Chi Minh being some honest fellow that could be trusted when making an offer if you did what he asked? HCM had no such power over Vietnam. If HCM hadn’t accepted Communism, he would’ve been quickly killed and replaced by someone that did. True Communism doesn’t occur until the entire world is on the same system. So the very definition of pursuing real Communism is all about invading and taking over country by country. Communist countries aren’t peaceful by nature.

We lost Vietnam because we fought it so dysfunctionally because our leaders were paranoid that if we fought it too hard, it would draw in China and the Soviets and start WWIII.

Of course I tend to follow the Comanche model.   I would have offered US citizenship to all the women and left the mother+++++ers in a country with no young women.  It would have been much cheaper and way more effective.

Figure 5M Afghan women you support and get on their feet.  Way cheaper

It is true that bombing alone did acomplish the ellimination of Milosevich. It's completely apples and oranges situation compared to Afghanistan, but I believe we can keep the Taliban reasonably contained mostly from the air.

They won't have anything to do with non-Islamic men. Sorry.

Bombing won’t keep them out of Kabul.
