Finally a National Conference (AAC+West Wing) Seems Inevitable

Every conference scrapes the cream off the league under it.

The success is as much separating from the dregs in low populated states as it is aligning with more well heeled schools.

Speaking of cream…. Yer mother!

Adding BYU and CSU makes a lot of sense if they just add two schools.  Both schools have legit rivalries with P10 schools that could be made into marque games and both are also long time rivals going back many years.  It keeps a tight footprint for the league for non-revenue sports travel and both have great facilities.

CSU has a great market and it makes a nice bridge to Utah.

If the Big XII really wants to have a realistic shot to pull Utah and Colorado to them they would need to have some rational reason for those schools to want to join.  Having Utah, Colorado, CSU, and BYU in the same league could be a good enticement.

Some of the AAC schools are really far flung (Florida schools, Ohio, etc.) and WVU seems to want out anyway and is only one vote.  Texas schools are too much of an overlap and make it seems like a high school/SWC league.  You want new markets but not spread all over the country.

Original Charter MWC members + BSU make the most sense for them to consider  just like they made most sense when the MWC was originally formed.

This make sense for travel partners and rivalries, but doesn't add new markets, recruiting beds or money to the league.

I don't really see good expansion candidates monetarily for the Pac right now ( unless Texas and OU decided against SEC ). They are isolated geographically, and the nearest markets they don't own don't have suitable schools that would likely make the move.

The Pac-12 isn't adding any MWC school nor will they take BYU. Yeah, if USC, UCLA, CAL, Stanford, WA and OR leave, then perhaps they would consider adding a school from a "lessor" conference with lower academic accolades. You likely don't get the snobbery of the UC folk, not to mention USC and Stanford. Oh, Colorado Springs? They thumb their noses at San Diego.

With the paltry payouts leftover after the blue bloods get done, regional conferences will be more in line due to travel in order to keep the non revenue sports afloat….much like theBig West.

Perhaps.  But as long as football is involved, it will be a tough sell asking for schools to tighten up their geography. Once upon a time, your example stretched from Stockton, CA to Denton, TX.  Not exactly regional.

Every Big 12 reporter had already said the current Big-12 schools that are left would not be interested in adding any Texas schools.

That’s both true and crazy. UH is a powerhouse in a giant market. Any outsider sees adding them as a no brainer. But most of us aren’t from Texas so our logic doesn’t apply.

I meant no disrespect to the Big West….BW bball is better than MW now.   I was just pointing out that the Coast to Coast BOR will be a financial struggle for many and that there are benefits to the regional rivalries.  BW was the first to come to mind as an example.

It SUCKS to be a CSU Ram!

I think BYU CSU the best combo for Big 12 maybe add Memphis and Cincy, I could see a gutted AAC merging with the MWC but playin a strictly East West schedule.

Think "markets" you left of the obvious choice, Houston, they have the market and sustained success, which is also why Cinci is a shoe in.  CSU nor BYU offer any new market presence.

I realize that there has been a claim of CSU owning the Denver market…though they don’t “own it” they still have a lot of interest.  Salt Lake is the home of the Mormon empire and YBU is a stones throw away.  Houston is the target to shoot for however the Big 12 will still have several Texas schools….Denver and Salt Lake are both bigger markets than Cincinnati so which way do they want to go

Yes it is only I only left out because of the alleged antipathy of the Texas schools to bring it in.

It looks like Texas/OU to the SEC has legs, in which case the shifting starts again.

The Big 12 will likely pick up UC, UH, UCF, USF

Which means the National Concept (originally explored by the Big East, as well as Hair/CUSA) will form to create the next contender league.

This will be good for the MWC basketball teams that go.

So, it’s likely the National Conference will go to primarily divisional play in Olympic Sports, with probably SDSU, Boise, UNLV, CSU and AFA (FB only) making up the rest of the American West with Wichita State, SMU, etc.

Rice University will try to grab an AAC spot, if not they’ll be the obvious MWC play.

BYU may factor in as well in the American National Conference.
