I am probably excessively pessimistic about this but because of realignment and NIL my feeling is many universities will gradually start realizing they will never keep up and don't really need football or sports.  They'll drop football and then other sports will become club teams thus relieving the university of the financial/legal responsibility of sports.

I've said this elsewhere but this could have been avoided if at the very beginning they (NCAA) stipulated that all money generated would be spread equally between all NCAA members... of course, that seems like  socialism and folks would have not been too excited about it... but it sure would have created a more even/fair structure.  Unfortunately, nobody asked me at the time... lol.

The NCAA used to be more restrictive with TV games and was sued by OU and GA.  That opened all of this up to where it is today.

Those Universities will be far better off financially and in terms of equity/opportunity for all Student Athletes. The cost of Tuition may even go down or remain steady since their fees won't have to support the Football Program.

Big 12 wont have 14 members by the time any further moves are made.

Correct, it won't. However, would the nB12 actually want to risk going to an arguably bloated 18 members by taking not just the Zona schools now but also Utah and CU?

Think about it. Clearly the nB12 would much rather add Oregon and Washington than UU and CU. What if enticing the former two schools in several years would require giving them a disproportionate amount of nB12 revenue a la Boise State and the MW? If UU and CU were not already on board that would not only be more feasible because the nB12 would only increase to 16 members, the nB12 wouldn't have to be concerned about CU and UU going ballistic because they weren't given such consideration.

And think about this. If the nB12 doesn't add UU and CU immediately, what other conference would be in a position to take them later in this decade? IOW, the two should still be poachable by the nB12.

True after that lawsuit in the early 80's things weren't going to be the same, but also don't think anyone could have visualized how out of control things have gotten.

With the USFL and XFL (and Arena, etc), why would we need another minor league Football system?  Let college football be college football.

Those will have to show they can remain solvent for more than a year or two before you can begin to equate this way. College football has been the minors forever.

This time around XFL does have an agreement with NFL in certain areas.

By adding Utah and Colorado along with the Arizonas it would pretty much force Oregon and Washington's hand to join the BIG12 as the PAC would not be able to recover. 18 teams also gives the BIG12 survivability from future expansion shenanigans so being at 18 teams could be a good thing.

New12 wants to merge. YBU and UCF are deal killers.

The only team that they actually have an argument against is UCF and that is because of geography. The BYU hate is frankly stupid, especially when you're in survival mode.

Could be but do the corner four now think the Pac's revenue will be worth staying in?

The math says no.

Shouldn't we wait to find out what ESPN says? I think the answer is probably no as well but I also know Oregon and Washington are the most valuable brands in the PAC 12 and Big 12.

Of course, but the Navigate projections had the conferences the same roughly with ucla/usc in PAC and big 12 without OU/T or the new 4.  Can’t imagine the trend being favorable math for the PAC.  I’m more interested in FOX than espn for this right now.  FOX has a chance to lock down the western 2/3 of the country if they can win the battle for the big 12.

Well FOX doesn't seem interested at all with the PAC so that only has helps the Big 12. So now I have to wonder of FOX and ESPN would just rather gut the PAC as it is now. Not sure why they would. If it isn't the Big 10 or SEC what's the point?

FOX will be interested in the new PAC/MWC the same way espn was about the aac.  Valuable markets and time slots, but not at power-level money.  After it’s all said and done, many MWC schools could really benefit.

Here;s an interesting article promoting Gonzaga basketball and Hawaii football to the Pac 12.

if the Pac adds any G5 programs it should be SDSU and Gonzaga...Hawai'i can always be scheduled OOC

All that's missing is a conference with Michigan, Arizona, Gonzaga and Arkansas
