AAU stopped counting their med school in Omaha because it wasnt on campus, and made changes to ag research measurements (which affected half the Big 10). And any school would benefit for membership in the B10 Academic Alliance. When the old PAC 16 idea was being floated, aggies were almost uniformly horrified at the prospect of being in a league with a bunch of communist-pervert schools like UCLA, USC, Stanford, Washington and UW. And I'm pretty sure that those schools have little interest in adding the fake army, jar-jizzing freak show that is A&M. this is 100% true the only school from texass the pac-12 would consider adding at this point or going forward would be UT-Austin

Getting access to whatever they call the CIC now is huge. It would have taken a big commitment from OU, but being in the B1G absolutely would have helped them academically. I think if one of them would have pulled the trigger on a Big 12 school or two there would have been a good chance the other two conferences would have jumped in and absorbed all the Big 12 schools. But nobody blinked, and the Big 12 survived. Ultimately it’s probably all for the better. The Big 12 is still a good conference, and four more schools get seats at the big boy table. NewGuy12
What about Rice University? I mean they would fit the academic profile of the Pac 12 for sure. Plus they are located in Houston as well. I guess the only thing holding back is that their sports kind of sucks. Having Rice in the Pac 12 would make the league even better with academics

However ACC is ripe for defection depending on terms. Both Big 10 and SEC have looked at ACC schools before and will again probably. Again don't put much into it though Especially since nothing can happen to the ACC schools until 2036.
