Interesting, I wonder if they just figured they'd have a better time competing in the Southland? Or did the WAC encourage them to leave after adding UT Arlington? Once all the dust settles the WAC will be back to 12 members (7 football), and a nice logical division split:

EAST
Abilene Christian
Incarnate Word
Stephen F Austin
Tarleton State
UT Arlington
UTRGV

WEST
Cal Baptist
Grand Canyon
Seattle
Southern Utah
Utah Tech
Utah Valley

I'd imagine that if rumors of Gonzaga leaving the WCC come to fruition that the WCC would seriously consider adding Seattle, putting the WAC back down to 11. Northern Arizona would sure fit nicely in the west...

Maybe the finances were more difficult than they thought it would be with being in the WAC. I mean WAC was going to set up like a Texas division and then a west division in their plans, but kind of odd to go back that is why I wonder if had something to do with their finances.

I don't see Gonzaga leaving, however if they did leave, I don't know if they would take Seattle, I mean if between Grand Canyon and Seattle probably take Seattle first. Grand Canyon has stronger athletic program right now but their whole academics still swirls about them.

Northern AZ wouldn't be smart to leave the Big Sky for the WAC.  The WAC is just too unstable right now.

Lamars biggest rival, McNeese State, was supposed to go to the WAC from Southland as well but ended up staying.  Combine that with how bad of a year Lamar had, maybe they thought the Southland with their rival might be a better long term fit for them.

Back they go?  Lamar reportedly returning to the Southland, for a third time, after one year in the WAC

I wonder if it has anything to do with Lamar being absolute TRASH this year in both football and basketball? From a football numbers standpoint it’s not good for the WAC, but they aren’t losing much in terms of quality.

Also, the addition of UTA makes a lot more sense now. At the time it seemed odd for them to add a 13th school, but I’m guessing the WAC probably knew that Lamar was pursuing a return to the Southland before they added UTA.

Listening to a podcast this morning about various things going on here is what they have:

Rumblings started in mid March saying Lamar could be a get for Southland, boosters, coaches and athletes were very unhappy being in the WAC not understanding why they were in a league where they had so much travel and with how their basketball and football teams did this year with financial issues pushed Lamar to approach and go back to Southland. Several WAC AD's didn't hear anything until right before the announcement was made which sounds like WAC didn't expect it to happen however at this point, there are no rumblings of other schools potentially leaving the WAC.

With the July Deadline looming for schools after the constiutional convention there will be more movement in FBS and FCS. There are some very light discussions about some schools forming their own football only conferences and trying to move up to FBS. There is also talk about Big South, Atlantic Sun and Ohio Valley merging into one mega football conference to help keep their AQ status.

Doesn't seem any traction to the rumor of Summit League starting their own football league.

Sun Belt is kicking the tires on further expansion to mostly help other sports.

Eastern Kentucky and Missouri St are very interested in moving up to FBS with Eastern Kentucky interested in C-USA and Missouri St having off and on talks with Sun Belt.

Gonzaga to Big East rumors, there is nothing concrete or anything close to concrete, basis more on Big East contacting schools to see if they were to expand who would be interested and would say right now, nothing but rumors.

I don't know how much i would put into this rumor

However I did see a video today that discussed Big 12 possibly making a play to keep Oklahoma from going to the SEC still

Well they would have to offer an amazing deal ($$$$$) to keep OK.

It would be very interesting if it did happen.

Who does the Big-12 take as a 14th member? BSU to pair up with BYU? Memphis? Or a more long term play in SDSU?

Who does the SEC take as a 16th member? Do they try to get USC to jump the Pac-12 ship? Take an ACC school? Try to get Notre Dame to join (complicated with GOR).

Then who does the ACC or Pac-12 backfill with?

The MW will ballon to 16 with the additions of SC, Utah, Nike U, and UW.

* I heard it from a friend , who heard from a friend, who heard it from an undisclosed source within the MW offices.

It really comes down to finances I don't put much stock into the discussion but with TV deals up in the air anything is possible. However ACC is ripe for defection depending on terms. Both Big 10 and SEC have looked at ACC schools before and will again probably.

Again don't put much into it though

Nah this other one, I have seem some of his odd stuff though. This one was talking SEC news, as they were talking about how behind the scenes Texas A&M isn't happy with Texas coming in and that Missouri isn't exactly that happy in SEC either

I still feel like Oklahoma and Texas should've headed to the Pac 12.

They almost did with Oklahoma St and Texas Tech, I think their president said they were one day away from agreeing to it

Then honestly Texas A&M might start looking to leave somewhere. Maybe the PAC 12? I know they are currently ending their media deal next year?
