Did I hear a WOOSH?

Conference Realignment thread

Recommended Posts

Some realignment news.  Texas Arlington is returning to the WAC on July 1 as the league's 15th member.  They rejoin Seattle and (for one year) NMSU, as those two are the only members left from UTA's previous stint in '12-'13.

What a map, though

If they can get a couple of basketball only schools out west (I hear Gonzaga has been looking....), then the divisions would work out nicely.

It gives me a headache just trying to think down to your level

Tbh I only see it staying at 12 or going to 14 schools. I really don't want the MWC to disappear or else Gonzaga won't have a better conference to move to

Boise State and Memphis are already gonna be in the Big 12 after OU and Texas leave.

I just don’t get going to 13 (once NMSU and SHU leave) to add a non-football school, unless they are expecting one of their private schools to leave for the WCC.

The North/South split is not official.  It isn't even necessarily being considered.  Dodd just threw it out there saying "Here's a projection of one way the Big 12 could organize its seven-team divisions in 2023".

I'd be pretty surprised if that's how the divisions end up.  I think they'll split up the Texas teams between the two divisions.

Lol...reading comprehension...

The Big 12 plans for its working group to forward a proposed division structure to Big 12 ADs by March during the Big 12 basketball tournament. The lineup could be finalized by Big 12 spring meetings, which will be held in May in Scottsdale, Arizona.

One person involved in the process said it would be "easier if we don't reshuffle the deck" in 2026. By placing Texas and Oklahoma in opposite divisions beginning in 2023, that would allow the Big 12 to conceivably stay with the same composition of two six-team divisions moving forward in 2026 without the 'Horns and Sooners.
