Conference Realignment thread

And anybody with a shred of knowledge knows it wouldnt be Georgia Tech.  All the ACC teams are off the market until 2036.  The Big 10 went fishing in those waters years ago but could only land Maryland.  And when the ACC got their network, it became a moot point for the forseeable future.

I never said Georgia Tech. I know they are really interested in Virginia though.

I know you didnt...

GT, UVa and UNC were all on the wish list.  But (so the story goes) when UNC balked, things fell apart.  Except with Maryland....which needed the money...

It gives me a headache just trying to think down to your level

Virginia was really interested and read something a few months ago which said they were close to going but something happened at the last minute and they decided to stay and wasn't related to North Carolina.

Interesting thread on ACC putting CFP expansion talks to bed. ACC commish says he expects more realignment before the end of the current playoff agreement. So much for the Alliance?

It could also mean that the ACC thinks that Notre Dame is going to join them as a full member. Supposedly right now the ACC is saying that they will veto any playoff expansion proposal with more than 8 teams, including 6 automatic qualifiers. The idea is that if there are only two at-large spots, that forces Notre Dame to join the ACC as a full member. I can't think of any other realistic P5 realignment scenarios between now and 2025. If any of the P4 wanted any Big 12 schools (or if the Big 12 wanted any G5 schools), they would have invited them already.

First, you should take some deep breaths before you get this worked up over a stupid Internet debate. Second, the point is not that the B1G has no interest in Ga. Tech but rather that the ACC is unlikely to be poached as long as their GOR is in effect.

The GOR doesn't mean anything. And he still hasn't done the world a favor ended it all. That's my problem.

Georgia tech is way too down south tbh

Perfect for the Big 10. Get in SEC territory, a big market, and a recruiting hotspot.

Also, the Big 10 goes from New Jersey to Iowa. Does a trip to Atlanta even matter;as far as distance?

For the record I still think the Big 10 is more likely to raid the PAC 12. USC has talked to the Big 10  for several years. Don't care what any know it all ++++ says. It has happened.

Is it possible that some pac 12 leftovers join the mountain west like Washington state and Oregon state?

Its interesting cause lets say 6 of the pac 12 go to the B1G. Then most likely Colorado and Utah head to the big 12. That just leaves Oregon state, Arizona state, and Washington State without a conference

You could say they'd try and keep the brand going. Talk to BYU, that's 6. And try to raid the best of the MWC and get back to the original WAC basically.

Let's say B10 takes the California schools, UW, and Ducks.

Wazzu, OSU, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, BYU, Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, UNLV, Nevada, Hawaii.

Colorado and the front range schools lean B12.

Hmm maybe conferences merging then?

They keep the PAC name and the exit fees and invite other schools to the PAC.

16 team Big Pac 12.

WazzU, Boise, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, BYU, Colorado

Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, TCU, Houston, Baylor

Would also be a thought. In the AAC's dreams at least. Maybe SDSU could sweet talk their way in over Boise or Houston (flip Colorado to with their old buds)

There has been a reason why West Virginia hasn't been in ACC talks before and that is mostly because of their education standing. I don't know if Duke, N. Carolina and some others there would let them in. Now Big 10 has been looking at schools off and on as well, Kansas being one of them. Pac-12 has also kicked the tires on a few of the Big 12 schools, but to me if any of the bigs move I am thinking it would be Big 10 first

I think the ACC let the academics argument fly out the window when they took in Louisville.

If the B1G wanted Kansas, they'd have already done it.  If the B1G truly has targets, it's some combination of UNC, UVA and Ga Tech to the Southeast or 4 to 6 PAC schools.  I still like the Prestige Worldwide idea of the B1G taking the Cali schools, UO, UW and CU and forming three 7 team divisions with a two-tier playoff (division champs and one wild card).
