Did I hear a WOOSH?

Conference Realignment thread

I was bored last week and did most of this while waiting to pick up a friend. Just wanted to see what a northeast aligned league might look like. P12, MWC, AAC, all probably unhappy in this outcome.

It seems that the 12 team playoff is off for now.  Will this slow down expansion?  What think you?

This one is for you @RSF

I know you're a fan. Southern Miss? Good info in the rest of the article.

Is there a reason we should deem this guy to be credible?

He also mentioned Tulane and SMU. Does he know something, or is he just speculating, like talk show guys mostly do?

I don't know how credible he is but he is just reporting what he has heard from people that are. Most of what he is saying has been told on their daily podcast. Mostly AD's from the Big 12 and newspaper writers and journalist in Texas. The Athletic usually has a few guys on their show a week. He is probably on the know. I find this somewhat amusing because I mentioned I had heard Tulane yesterday. Did some quick research. Tulane was one of the top finalist on the Big 12's last expansion.

Also, I laughed at Southern Miss but some of their fans and reporters are making a decent argument on Twitter.

He should have stopped at Memphis & Boise.

Mmm I'm not buying SoMiss, if that were the case AAC would be looking at them.

This is funny and sad at the same time. Zeigler (SDSU) and (Prater) had a 15 minute podcast today talking about Zeigler's interview with Hair and some of the other AD's and sources.

If the Mountain West added SMU and Memphis those two schools would not raise the value of the conference. Sorry @Did I hear a WOOSH?

Also, if CSU and Air Force leaves it doesn't hurt the value of the conference. Once again Woosh... Said he understands why AF would go but when asked different people about CSU they just shrugged.

Thinks Boise State and SDSU are working together. Not sure the Big 12 invite is coming because of constant changes happening every day.

Thompson basically said they could stay at 10  because there isn't anyone to add. Anyone else takes value from the conference.

Word is if Air Force and CSU leaves the MWC is still considered the top G5.

LOL!

The above sounds as absurd as the Southern Miss rumors.

Why are you giving these guys clicks?? LMAO

There is such a thing as "inventory" (follow me here)... and less content has never been worth the same as more content...  particularly if you hypothetically are adding schools that expands the scope of your time offerings.

Why would the Big 12 be able to give Memphis a full revenue share (20+ million, hypothetically) but in the MWC they wouldn't be worth 3 million (the Fox/CBS rate in the MWC)??

Zeigler is fanboying. The way he talks about Thompson being charismatic is creepy. When a writer goes there you know he is compromised.

One issue the Pac-12 is facing with their new commish is the fight with the president's about their views on the future, some want to continue the line with respect to type of university where others want to open the door a bit when they expand.

The Big 12 that we see now (which includes UCF, Houston, BYU and Cincinnati) likely will not be the same as we see it come time for new contracts.

Have heard universities like Tulane for their academics so might not be a surprise. Southern Miss ehh

They will probably believe you. They just won't believe anything positive about Boise State. That seems to be the rule.

No-one disbelieves positives about Boise but it also doesn’t change the market size issue and the academic issue.   Those are factual issues that likely kept you from moving with the top 4.

Could you be in the next group whenever it happens?  Sure, but things change over time and that chance could be positive or negative.

The MWC has historically been very conservative and not proactive.  It hurt them with the AAC passing them by.   I suspect it will continue to be an issue.
