Beaver-Poke
Ha. If Georgia and Alabama were in the same division and actually played each other every year in the regular season, like Ohio State and Michigan, they'd have half as many championships because someone would have been eliminated from the championship game and not gotten the second bid to the playoffs. The P4 need those 3-4 annual home games against FCS/G5 teams to inflate their records and ensure bowl eligibility. If they only played P4 opponents almost everyone would go 9-3 and that's not sexy enough for the networks that run college football.

You’re confusing a terrible football product on the field with no fan support. I’m not going to dispute the football claim. You can even call UTEP basketball mediocre. I won’t dispute that either. But there’s three things you cannot say about UTEP: lack of fan support, bad facilities and nobody in El Paso cares. It is the one rare G5 that can average 48k and 10k in FB and BB. The fans are hungry for a winner and if there’s sellouts for an 8-4 team…..just imagine if UTEP has a season like NMSU’s last season. Ask Nevada fans how intense the basketball rivalry was in the WAC. The Don Haskins Center had sellouts and although the basketball program has been between average and mediocre, attendance is still better than most G5’s and even some P4’s. That’s the one positive I find in the move to the MWC, it might revive the basketball program. Last but not least, El Paso might not be growing fast as other areas of Texas but El Paso County has 750-800K and the metro area has about 1.1 million if you include Las Cruces and some parts of Southern New Mexico. If you include Juarez….it gets close to 3 million people. UTEP does deliver its entire tv market and the local media and businesses don’t ignore the Miners. It’s one of the advantages of being the only sport in town. The closest pro sports town is Phoenix (7-8 hours away) and the closest P4 schools are Arizona and Texas Tech 350 miles in each direction. The closest P2 schools are in Austin and L.A. Now if NDSU really really wants to play FBS football, call Judy in Dallas. C-USA would be a good home for you guys. I’m sure Liberty vs NDSU would command good ratings and C-USA is on ESPN and it’s on the Eastern and Central time zones. 5
Poster17
UTEP was the right choice for the MWC. Next is to get Hawaii as a full time member then stop. 8 team conference just like the OG MWC made up of teams all in the same footprint. It really doesn't need anymore than that. 1

And you are right, CUSA would be a perfect fit to get started at the FBS level before the next round of musical chairs which will probably be in 2-4 years. I'd also add GCU as basketball only (isn't 11 teams a great # for basketball?) and Sac State to give the Conference some cushion against future realignment shenanigans and add 2 more Markets (Sacramento and Phoenix): UNLV..............Wyoming Nevada..........Air Force SJSU..............New Mexico Sac State.......UTEP Hawaii............NMSU *GCU * = Oly only To me that seems like a solid and regional Conference, 9 Conference games Round Robin.
Laconian
Eight teams is enough. The only reason the MWC should go to 9 is if media partners say it will improve the overall package.

You need nine for an even number of conference games at home and road, and not having to deal with trying to schedule an extra football game and two basketball games. I wasn't expecting that. I guess if there was going to be future invites after Hawaii joined full time, that question would have come up for the new schools. Jesus, please stop. This is a message board, not a conference office. And travel partners are a thing of the past, thinking like 80's so stop that shit too.
