I disagree. I could see western newbie AAC schools leaving. They aren't getting a full TV payout and they're not eligible for the UCF, Houston, Cincy and UConn (if still applicable) buyouts.

I don’t see them paying what it would take to get in while the mwc get their buy in covered.  That’s not a sustainable dynamic.  In a vacuum I could maybe see UTSA going over but not under the current monetary circumstances.

Wyoming has the largest foundation of all MWC schools. They just have to choose to do it.

I wish they would.  Just don’t think it’s right or sets a good precedent to pay some buyouts and not others.  There’s not a significant value difference between the four that came and Wyo/memphis/utsa/etc. No need to perpetuate a tier.

I get over 50 OTA channels.  Of course, probably half of them are shopping networks or Spanish-language channels.

I was referring to OTA channels that most Americans have (ABC, FOX, etc and PBS and CW).  Good for you though on the selection.

So, it didn't happen because we are tied to Reno, or we didn't want to move without Reno? That's crazy. Time to cut the cord.

The same thing was said about Oklahoma and Oklahoma St being a package deal with their legislature also....and OU was able to bolt to the SEC just fine.

Most Americans have access to a lot more OTA channels than they perhaps realize.  They just have to plug in an antenna.

You may be thinking that watching TV with an antenna will bring you back to the old days of antennas when only a handful of stations were available. Today, most areas in the United States broadcast 50+ channels over the air. Locations like Los Angeles have as many as 175 channels.

https://www.antennasdirect.com/antenna-range.html#:~:text=The Channels You'll Receive,as many as 175 channels.

That said, there's a difference between just getting lots of channels and getting lots of channels that people actually want to watch.

Mathematically it doesn't work that way.  Just like when the MWC took the top 8 programs and left the WAC-16 for dead.  Other schools will rise, others will crumble under the increased competition.  The G5 playoff spot goes to the top champ, not the top conference, that's the problem.

Right, but more often than not the top champ is going to come from the top conference, simply because of talent, and strength of schedule.

The leftover MW could just take the buyout $$$ and merge with the AAC. I'm sure there's a way to figure it out and keep the money.

That way, everyone is protected from eventual poaching.

If they lose 2 or more that might make sense. Save our money and elevate the conference at the same time. Definitely should be looked at.

Agreed.  We might not be in the business of incubating schools in the 2020’s.  Merger def on the table in my mind with an East West championship game.  Saves Air Force from paying exit fees.

Strength in numbers.

Interesting idea.  Let's play that out a little.

Assume for a moment that the Pac completes its expansion with UTSA, UNT, Memphis, and Tulane.  That would leave the AAC with ten members and the MWC with eight.  Put the two together and you'd have an 18-member conference with the following football membership:

EAST - Army, Navy, Temple, East Carolina, UNC Charlotte, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, UAB, Rice

WEST - Tulsa, Wyoming, Air Force, New Mexico, Utah State, Nevada, UNLV, San Jose State, Hawaii

For non-football sports, two would need to be added to the east so there would also be nine on each side:

EAST - Temple, East Carolina, UNC Charlotte, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, UAB, Rice, TBD, TBD

WEST - Tulsa, Wichita State, Wyoming, Air Force, New Mexico, Utah State, Nevada, UNLV, San Jose State

Potential candidates for the TBDs would include VCU, Richmond, and Charleston.

I like it!

So this is basically the MWC with OSU and Wazzu and kicking out the bad teams and then adding some other good G5 teams and calling the conference the PAC 12. And with a couple million more a year TV contract. So it insures we are the top G5 conference every year

It's kicking out the good teams, and taking at least one bad team in CSU.

SDSU hasn’t been all that good the past few years. Just 2 really good seasons the past 6

So let me get this straight, the Pac 2 is spending their war chest to help the departing 4 spend a bunch of money to go to a conference whose goal now is to attract the likes of UTSA and UNT??  As someone who was raised in Texas, this makes me laugh...

If the PAC offers an invite to Memphis I would say take it. no sense in waiting for something (ACC) that may not happen. PAC should offer UNLV, Memphis, Tulane, and Gonzaga olympic sports.

9 football members makes an 8 game conf schedule simple...10 basketball members makes an 18 game conf schedule where everyone plays home/away easy.

EDIT: if UNLV is a no-go for some reason go ahead and grab up South Florida in their place.

this makes too much sense

Plus their commissioner, he’s a bit of an “A”

Call it a Joint Venture until 2030.

The simple act of playing an extra championship game between the MWC (NFC) and the AAC (AFC), if that’s possible NCAA to crown the G5 playoff participant.

And it didn’t cost $111 million.  Might even make money.

Mini G5 playoff.  That handles the CFP until the rules change.

What about media revenue?
