Just depends on where you want to draw the line, but city population per Google EP is 677k anbd Albq is 561k, or 110k bigger there. But if you want to talk metro and just draw a bigger circle, that is fine. Point is both are still decent size cities and someone saying EP isn't growing fast enough as a reason they shouldn't be picked while simultaneously showing numbers for a town of 54k in Logan and surrounding area doesn't make for a good argument. There are certainly good reasons to discuss and debate expansion regarding UTEP and EP, but population growth isn't one of them. I think UTEP and NMSU will both stay in CUSA for the foreseeable future and i am good with that. If musical chairs start again with the big boys like last year, which i don't see happening, then so be it. When talking about market size or even TV market size, Metro areas are considered not just the city itself. So the line is drawn further out. But they are similar overall. Both are good sized cities, especially out west where there are a lot of states which simply don't have a lot of population. What isn't remotely close is Logan, which was my original response.

I was mostly responding to @SteedLaw posts about why he thought Texas State and UTEP could benefit the MWC I don't know the numbers with TV, and if it would result in a reduction or not. That said I do think this mentality of "more mouths to feed" has been short sighted and caused the MWC to miss out on some decent schools over the years. Thinking mostly of UTSA I also would be curious to hear from UNM fans on if they like the idea of adding UTEP as a rival

Logan is just 30 miles north of the Salt Lake metro area with north Ogden at the northern edge. Also Ft. Collin’s is just north of the Denver metro, as for Fresno, its metro is larger than El Paso’s. So basically all those including Albuquerque have significantly larger TV markets. As for the Montana schools, I don’t see the appeal for those very small markets. The pie just gets cut up in smaller pieces. Bringing UTEP on would not be beneficial besides a rival for UNM, their TV market which is shared with NMSU is #91. If Oregon State and WSU decide to join I’m fine with that as higher profile programs. But if not I’m fine without them.

Just because P4 college athletics are rearranging the deck chairs, doesn't mean we shouldn't be launching a life boat instead. No reason to expand for the sake of expansion. We can argue all day about adding Montana, or Texas, or UTEP vs N. Texas, or whatever. The fact is, we don't have to expand. We absolutely don't NEED WSU/OSU. Good additions, but we certainly don't need them. Let's calm down and stabilize as opposed to joining the race to chaos just because everybody else is. 3

Some of us like the idea of growing the MWC, and recruiting more in Texas. TCU tuition is apparently $53,980 per year... So we really have not much in common with you guys. Go troll elsewhere Ok, Karen. Clearly you don't actually read the posts. Adding Montana isn’t going to help but the Cougs are the 2nd team in the 13th largest state with a 7.8M population. To put that in context, that is more people than Wyoming, Hawaii, Idaho and New Mexico combined. When it comes to negotiating TV deals they matter a lot.
