Beyond good enrollment numbers I don't see it either. I haven’t heard that one in a long time, memories! The current one is Under Construction Forever. Bias aside, if you’re an engineer in Florida you’re probably a UCF grad. If you work in the space or national defense industry you probably are as well. Medical is young but growing. Doing alright and as already mentioned very high admissions standards. 1

I'm not sure this is a good thing. According to USN, UCF is ranked 73rd in overall engineering schools. Schools like CU, NC State, Florida, Utah, ASU, Iowa State, Wichita State, Auburn, CSU, Oregon State, Houston, Tenn and Dayton all have much better Engineering rankings. UCF is ranked 50th in Aerospace. You see domination of the market(which is BS), I see 49 better schools to go to.. But we all know the US Government likes to give contracts to the lowest bidder, so I'm not surprised some average at best UCF grads pollute the market. Like with many things in this country, we should expect and demand better. But we all know it doesn't always work out that way. Sometimes bottom of the barrel rules the day. In the halls of NASA, lowly graduates of the Ivies, MIT, Cal Tech, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Berkeley and the other UC campuses, Purdue amd the other B1G schools, Carnegie-Mellon, U-Dub, UVA, UNC, Rice, Texas et al know to make way when a vaunted UCF grad passes by.

I calculate around $225 million dollars to the remaining MWC teams if a conference such as this were to be made. 5 teams x $34 million exit fee(unless anounced before this summer, which it wouldn't) which the Pac would most likely have to help with, plus around $55 million to the PAC for breaking the contract and inviting less than all the MWC to join the PAC. Or they could save that money and join/merge/reverse merge with the entire MW and use the money to build the conference instead of funding their direct competition western football league. The money the departing teamsa re leaving is to cover current PAC lawsuits, and there are several of them, and debts incurred by them leaving. PAC has over $60 million coming from the NCAA BB credits but that is over 10 years. They simply do not have much liquid cash. Given the budget cuts they are looking at, helping with exit fees for a marginally better media deal is probably very very low on the list of things they want to do with the $$ they have.

Nebraska’s medical research expenditures were $173m last year…as a flagship school that’s been around since 1869. UCF’s med school, only 17 years old, had $217 million in research expenditures last year. Most internal med/PCP’s from Nebraska come from Creighton. Nebraska is the number 8th ranked primary care medical school in the nation. good grief

SteedLaw
Good grief. I take a few months off checking these forums and we are STILL talking about the nonsense that is the PAC-2 poaching teams from the MWC. For the billionth time, the money is not there nor is the incentive. Barring the PAC-2 getting an invite to the B1G 10 (good luck), there are no other options; either we all join them or they join us in the next 24 months...it is that simple, folks. And, to everyone still hoping for a "pie-in-the-sky" poaching scenario for their alleged elite school, let me just say this...be careful what you wish for. Remember when the PAC-10 expanded and took Utah and Colorado over BYU...remember that? Indeed, be careful what you wish for since I am not convinced that the schools/teams allegedly at the top of the list to be poached by the PAC-2 would even be at the actual top of their list...just sayin. These are academics and college presidents making these decisions. So, you know, I would not be surprised if other factors than just prowess on the field or court came into play is all. But, again, even that is not worth discussing since it is not going to happen. We are either all joining them in a reverse merger or they are joining us.

Utah brought far, far, far more to the Pac-12 table than BYU could have ever hoped to bring. Great football, competitive basketball, great gymnastics, decent volleyball and soccer programs. Their baseball program stinks but it somehow won a league title in 2016. Colorado was a Pac-12 flop. It never felt like Colorado was part of the conference to me because we (OSU) never played them in anything. They didn't play baseball, softball, men's soccer, wrestling, gymnastics ... all sports offered by OSU and many other Pac-12 schools. Did they ever win anything in the Pac-12, except for maybe a conference basketball tournament or two? Colorado was chosen because of its academics and the Denver TV market. I look forward to the uncertainty of OSU's longtime conference affiliation being resolved. I have no problem with a full OSU/WSU/MWC reverse merger under the older, more marketable and more recognizable Pac-14 brand.

Their reputation as a place where top performing engineers go to do their best work is at least 40 years out of date. 1 Quote “Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts.” -Richard Feynman "When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators." -P.J.
