They do it for HS football in CA now.  Your playoff division is determined through your non league schedule.  
Mu sons team was D1 last year, but will be in the DII playoffs this year.

he is going to do whatever he is told to do by ESPN, but it will change just the matter of when it will change. The big thing will be who ends up with the contract for the playoffs which is what most of the two day meeting was about with presentations.

They were never close to an offer from anyone, most Aztec fans can't accept that but its true.

Never bothered me...but clearly your 'scouring' was limited.  Especially among my brethern, who by and large preferred BYU get pushed into Great Salt Lake.

Was trying to find it but appears there were reports coming out of meetings of OSU and WSU talking more about making a run as a two school conference which then would put the ball in CFP court if they would still get an bid or not toward the playoff.

 

Then on another note saw that Florida St, Clemson, North Carolina and another school would leave ACC as a block when the time comes. 

Then of course on twitter that started stupid speculation that those four could join OSU and WSU in a new conference.

But a point that was brought up in an ESPN article I think it was, another potential issues CFP may have to deal with was with no changes to the playoff for 2024, what would they do if MWC reversed merged with OSU and WSU under Pac-12 flag, would they still be entitled to the 80% formula

Far be it from my very nature to say anything positive about BYU athletics, but it was a win for the Big 12 when they decided to add the Cougars. (I honestly can’t believe it took them that long.) 

If I could invest in which school/team is going to continue to “rise up” and “appreciate in value”, the Cougars would be near the top of my list. They are a Nortre Dame in the making.

Didn't say it wasn't.  Quite the opposite.  But I was a distinct minority.

 

And I can tell you why it didn't happen sooner.  The Big 12 already had OUT.  They didn't need another school that didn't work and play well with others.  By the time it did happen, there was a level of desperation on both sides.

Not true.  The Friday morning prior to the PAC collapse, when it looked like they would all sign the Apple deal, SDSU was told they would be in and they were all set to be invited.  In fact, they had already written their public statement and were just waiting for the signatures that morning.  Of course, as we all know, instead of the meeting that would have everyone sign, Oregon and Washington instead announced their departure to the BIG and the PAC died and SDSU's path to P5 with it.

You’re right. It was just over eager Aztec fans leaking the SDSU invite to the PAC for months before the Conf eventually imploded. They also forced the commissioners of the PAC and B12 to never directly deny that they were interested in or had extended invites to the school. Lol.

With the 2 year grace period that every FBS Conference is allowed there really isnt anything they can do. In addition since every Conference and ND has to agree to any changes with the CFP which WSU and OSU (aka the PAC) will never do meaning legally they don't have a choice.

But it probably won't matter.  Top 6 ranked champs get the invite.

They could basically all agree to not schedule them for those two years and tank their SOS.  A 2-team conference is super frail if one of the two teams is bad then they won't be in the top 6.
