With 24 months' notice of departure, $17M. And if the percentage actually paid is the same as what Maryland paid the ACC, $10M. That number multiplied by six would be a good size amount of money for the six MWC leftovers to be sure. But it had better be because their/your annual TV revenue going forward would be of MAC-ian proportions.

Lol, you ain't going anywhere without Wyoming. Get used to it.

So, yeah, really stupid question, but I thought I would ask here anyway…

A friend of mine who has been a pretty good source for intel said he heard Oregon State AD Scott Barnes met in person with Nevarez this week to discuss supposed “brainstorming” options for the new conference. The main topics of the meeting were to brainstorm Scott’s ideas he had for expanding the new 14-team PAC to potentially 16 and even 18 teams post prospective merger.

Just wondering since I thought if anyone could confirm the actuality of this meeting, it would be the crazies on the MWC forum hiding out in the internet bushes.

Don’t know if I trust the source entirely, so asking here if there is any confirmation to that rumor.

Yes The oregon press had a blurb CHUn and Barnes were meeting with MWC commish over next two week  NO real Topic was mentioned

"

From the article:

“Chun said he and OSU athletic director Scott Barnes will be meeting over the next two weeks with Mountain West commissioner Gloria Nevarez for brainstorming sessions on ways to align. Nevarez has traveled to both Pullman and Corvallis in recent weeks, and has made no secret of her conference's interest in teaming with WSU and OSU and is open to ideas.”

Furthermore, the article states WSU/OSU reached out to the B12/B10 and they were told “no thanks.”"

WSU has also done the same thing as well  kind of just like the presentations, went to WSU first and did that and then went to OSU next. So really same pattern here with it

The buyouts never drop. It’s not tied to the TV contracts but to the membership in the conference.

When SDSU had stated they were leaving the MWC there was an article written about how the exit fee is figured. It was stated the amount for the exit fee equals 4 times the annual media pay out if the teams gives notice prior to July 1. And double if after. It also stated the exit fee is unknown and would have to be refigured for after the 25-26 season since that is when the media deal ends.

So IF this reporter is correct there is an exit fee of somewhere between $33-$34 mil if a team leaves for the 24-25 season. Somewhere between $16-$17 mil if they leave for the 25-26 season and give writing notice prior to June 30, 2024. As of now being the exit fee has to be refigured and voted on the exit fee is in question for after the 25-26 season.

I have not nor am I going to to fact check this guy but if he is correct the exit fee is directly connected to the TV contract.

Buyouts always drop.  I understand it’s not tied to the tv contract, never said it was.  They can still wait it out.  Everything has to be renegotiated in a couple years.

They can wait out any existing contract that exists.

Bylaws are perpetual, Mr Wizard.  No expiration date.

It gives me a headache just trying to think down to your level

The CFP powers just stated they will not allow the PAC to “wait it out” without apparent consequence. What the CFP powers will accept and what the NCAA rules allow on paper are two different things. The “waiting it out option” is officially off the table for the PAC.

Well, and there it is. Sounds like there is some confirmation…

This thread was much more fun when SUDS was headed to the P12 and FS was moving on up to the B12.

For sure. It's now just turned into the endless realignment circle jerk that seems to happen every few years.

Here's the little tidbit Woosh seems to be either ignoring or too dumb to realize.  In a couple years the exit fee will go UP.  Why?  Because there will be a new TV deal (yes, the exit fee is tied, in part, to the TV contract) and increased playoff money.  How much each goes up is TBD, but they will be going up.  And with it, the exit fee.

Wrong. It doesn’t drop unless they give three years notice

Which is fine, there’s time.  Mwc might not even exist in three years. And buyouts always drop, every single one has been less than what was contracted in the last round of realignment.  Not wrong, right.
