If both schools keep playing the way that they are, they just might. It’s a great year for them to both be playing very well. Irony is the PAC is probably the best conference this year and it won’t even exist next year.

one good year after years of not being good won't change it that much, knowing how many will potentially leave the schools after this is all over is going to bring them down a bit to. If OSU and WSU and MWC join, and negotiate a new contract if the payout was $10 million or more per school I would be ecstatic if was a MWC school

It is fun for all of you to play pretend that the PAC-2 will want you and invite you all.

That is not what is going to happen. You would be wise to come to that realization and start planning for your true futures.

Outside of being in Vegas, you the UNLV brass should be worrying about what value they add to a new Conference.

Hint: It's a value less than what you believe.

Yes. I saw a post by a TV talking head that said he thinks they should take 6 from the Mountain West. I thought, does he even know that will be $204 million? Where is that money coming from?

And if they had 204 million why wouldn't WSU and OSU just use that on their universities?   That's a totally absurd thought to think they would use it on a buyout to another school.

Especially since we are getting $4 million now, last time the conference got a raise was about $3 million per team so that again would be that 8-10 window. I don't see the networks tripling our payout with WSU and OSU joining

It's not a all do to WSU and OSU, but our contract is old and we would be getting a bump in 2026 anyway.  So we'd be basically be getting our valuation bump early (and locked into a longer term deal) if we re-negotiate with WSU and OSU.

Maybe or Maybe not, MWC hasn't set the world on fire. The last time our contract came up we got a $2-3 million raise from the previous contract. Now thinking about the same bump for this contract maybe, again MWC really have hurt themselves on the field as the contract has come up. I'm just saying if add OSU/WSU and offered $10 million or more per team a year with that deal MWC schools would be jumping up and down because that would be a hell of an increase from where it is now.

Any MWC schools with $200M to buy their way into a power conference, on top of the existing budgets and required bump to be competitive at the next level?

Well SMU won't be relevant in ACC for some time if ever but ACC does hold that money back though which is sort of a win for them

Cool. $34 million per team.

With 24 months' notice of departure, $17M. And if the percentage actually paid is the same as what Maryland paid the ACC, $10M. That number multiplied by six would be a good size amount of money for the six MWC leftovers to be sure. But it had better be because their/your annual TV revenue going forward would be of MAC-ian proportions.

And who else are they going to add from the AAC that would be better than the 6 remaining mountain west teams?

They wouldn't need to take any AAC schools since the NCAA doesn't require more than 8 teams to have a football league and qualify for bowl games and if ESPN and FoxSports was game, the new Pac-8 could simply carry their games as a substitute for the existing MWC-12 while also broadcasting a couple games per week of the MWC-8 comprised of the 6 leftovers plus the Montana schools.

I'll bet they're more relevant than Cal.

Wait, so why do you care again exactly? People go to colleges in other states all the time and find their way back.

I graduated from a Cal State school and I can assure you it would have made no difference had I went to a UC, other than I may have had to accrue student loans rather than paying as I went.

Apparently you are missing the point.  Families on the lower economic spectrum do go to Cal States because it’s cheaper.  And if you were trying to get into a UC Doctoral program it does matter.  As I pointed out UC Davis has never accepted a Sac State student into their Doctoral programs.   And yes students typically stay in the region in which they went to school.

Montana schools have little interest in moving up.

So in your opinion the CA Master Plan for Higher Ed is set up to keep the poors out of UC doctoral programs?

Are you sure?  At one time MU was all over it, but MSU shot it down.  I don't know if either one has changed their position on that.  Budget, facilities, etc. they're not really at the level to just make the jump without some struggles.  I'd say they fit in easily as well as Houston does in the Big12 though.  TCU was a little closer relatively speaking when they went to the B12, but they still had some work to do, and look at them now.  I think there are programs that would grow in the MWC and therefore grow the MWC, and there are those that would come in as anchors and remain there.  I put the MT schools in the former if we ever got to that point.

They can just wait it out until buyout drops.  They don’t need the teams for a few years.

The Maloof’s would probably be the closest for UNM. One of the Maloof’s actually played football at UNM. I don’t know how involved they are. Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates also have roots here but I don’t think either claim NM at all. Would be nice to have billionaire boosters.
