I recall reading that the MWC wanted Houston, but they said no. All I can recall as far as verification is that it didn't strike me as a reliable source at the time. I will see if I can find it. It was in the time of TCU. This is even more true if college football happens to be a religion in Texas, which it is. Two of the following 4 are really no brainer adds — if you can get them: UTSA, Texas State, UTEP, North Texas. At least two of those would join at a discounted rate. Yes we need to be in Texas but 3 are not better adds than Memphis and Tulane. San Marcos, home of Texas State, is an overlap with UTSA in the San Antonio DMA. North Texas has direct competition from SMU and TCU, UTEP is not in the Texas Triangle.

Sure they aren’t at their peak they were the past few years, but they were just that much better than the competition to where they can withstand a rebuild and still be the NY6 rep. Right now they are. If Fresno goes undefeated and one of SMU, Tulane, UTSA or Memphis goes undefeated they will get the Bid. Add OSU and WSU and remove SMU and it becomes less clear. Merge with Tulane, Memphis and UTSA and it’s clear again.

So the ACC is adding SMU so some of their schools get to play in Texas for 5 or so games? That's not why. They are adding SMU for 1 reason. The money they arent getting can be diverted to those that have been clamoring for it. Same with Cal and Stanford. The point was about the MWC missed opportunity just like the PAC’s. It’s not about now. When they had Utah, TCU and BYU they should have added Fresno, Boise, Houston, and SMU it’s not even a debate they lost their lead to the AAC. The ignorant, short sighted leadership of Thompson and MWC Presidents is why. People may not like Aresco but he built and passed the MWC.

Not sure you can blame Aresco that 3 of his teams got promoted and no MWC schools did. He is proactive and forward thinking. The MWC is reactive and short term focused. The schools in this league sound very much like PAC-12 schools. Quote It gives me a headache just trying to think down to your level
