Conference Realignment thread

I don't think filling it with MW content is their goal.

That's probably the most valuable time slot on Saturday. I'm thinking they will go all in with a big offer to a P5.

Not CBS's style.  And the 3 upcoming deals are all split between Fox and Disney.  If they wanted to spend big bucks they would have just kept the SEC deal.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

SDSU AD JD Wicker was on the radio yesterday and spoke about some realignment issues.  https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-the-darren-smith-show-30961693/episode/jd-wicker-were-going-to-tell-87547189/

At the 11:50 mark when asked about the MW expanding he spends two minutes talking about how the state of Texas produces more recruits (in all sports) than any other state, has major media markets, etc.  From the sounds of it that is where the MW will be looking to add, if they add.  He said the candidates have to bring value to the tv contract and be investing in their programs.

Separately, he said he has been prodding the conference to drop the football divisions or change conference scheduling because SDSU and Boise want to play each other every year.   (9:40 mark)

Said repeatedly MW is the best G5 conference so why would anyone want to leave to another G5

Also, SDSU is about to announce an OOC football series against an SEC school.  Said it wasn't Bama or Auburn and it won't be Missouri because was already have two home and homes with them.  Series will be a 1 for 2 to balance out our 2 for 1 with UCLA because our home game last year against UCLA that was cancelled was rescheduled to one of the years when we will be playing the SEC school.

Makes sense.  Any team which hopes to be invited into a P5 conference within a few years has little incentive to jump to another G5 now and eat exit fees twice.  They’d gladly eat the exit fees to get into the P5, but not otherwise.

UNT checks the boxes as far as investing in their programs.  Texas State built and expanded their stadium in the last 20 or so years.  UTSA..  they need a plan to replace Alamodome to join imo.

The state of Texas and the media markets are key.  Air Force and Army are playing the Commanders Classic in Arlington.

So glad we are staying in the MWC but I hope we can pick up a Texas school or two.

That could have been discussed with regards to CSU and AFA as well. However doing that will also make some schools angry as well. That is going to be a delicate balance because when they created the divisions there was feathers being ruffled when talking about putting Boise in the west division.

Out of the 5 of UNT, Rice, UTEP, UTSA, and TSU, North Texas is the one making the big investments into Athletics and facilities.  Rice, UTEP, and Texas State are kind of treading water there and UTSA's facilities are a dumpster fire. The Roadrunners have plans to start building basketball and baseball facilities but that is years out. They play in a borderline high school gymnasium for basketball and have to rent the Alamodome, halfway across San Antonio.

Aresco started to believe his own bullsh1t.  He thought he could crawl into bed with espn as anything other than a disposable pawn.  When the Hateful 8 stuck together and spurned the move to tear the conference apart solely so that OUT could get out early without a payout, he set Bowlsby on a path of destruction.  Had he stayed neutral, the B12 may very well have looked at at least one MWC school, instead they were hellbent on leaving the ACC like a soiled, deflated plastic +++++ doll.  And now Mr. P6 is more like this:

He went after the two best remaining G5 FB Schools on the map. They said no for their own reasons. Not necessarily to make the MW stronger.

Can't blame him. He took his shot.

The AAC will attempt to plunder the best of the CUSA and Sunbelt. He will catch a few fish and miss on a few.

Don't look now, but somebody better grab Liberty. They just pummeled media darling UAB on the road.

I’m really happy the MWC is staying in one piece.  There are too many fanbases that would’ve been fractured under the weight of realignment in the west.  This is a great opportunity year for the conference to show some depth and prepare for the future.  Hopefully you can pick up one or two texas schools along the way to playoff expansion.  The regionality the conference provides is what makes college football fun.  This is a win for everyone.

The Mountain West holds all the cards now. Time to secure our present and future by being strategic and decisive. Offer as a package deal Eastern wing SMU, Tulsa, Memphis, Tulane and USF. If we can get 4 of these we also get Wichita St which would also bring in Gonzaga. We kill the AAC, up our contract to the 7 mil or better range by forcing ESPN to bid for us and establish us as the perennial playoff / NY6 representative conference. If the B-12 takes 2-4 in a couple of years that changes us very little. We separate completely from the rest of the G-3 and threaten the PAC-12 and B-12 for dominance in Football and BB. This ends all instability for these teams except for an upward movement.
