Olympics MEGA-THREAD.

This is all true.  There is another uncomfortable truth as well.  Pop is not as good at coaching Olympic basketball as coach K.

I am sure I will get roasted for that.

It's probably true. I think college coaches are used to pulling together teams in relatively narrow windows of time. NBA rosters are built over years, with long training camps and 82 games to build continuity. Hell, with a turned over roster it took half the season for the Warriors to pull together and play competitive basketball. And they have one of the most team-oriented superstars in NBA history.

Still, I am not sure there is another college coach that can command the attention of NBA players quite like Coach K.

I think Mark Few or Jay Wright would do a better job than Pop.  The roster decisions this go around seemed odd as well.

She went from being the runaway best gymnast in the world on a bad day for her Sunday night, to falling apart and quitting at the drop of a hat two days later. You will struggle to find a parallel to that in any sport.

Well, that was predictable....

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Nope I blame people like you with idiotic views on covid that robbed him.

He knew the rules going in.  All he had to do was get a poke in the arm.  He let his country down.  He will never be able to tell his grand kids that he was a gold medalist.

Still wrong, you and your ilk irreparably poisoned society with your fecklessness

He not only selfishly let down America, who knows how many other people he made sick.  Death on his hands?  Possibly.  Kind of like you and your kids.

Nah, I did not give him COVID, I'm vaccinated.

He let America down.  He let his teammates down.  He let his legacy down.

Greg Popovic is a shit coach. Need a real coach. He's presided over most of the losses in the past two decades.

Gawd damn. At least make it less obvious that you can't separate a man's politics from coaching ability. Lol.

I miss the days when I ignored the Olympics because they were an exercise in jingoistic American exceptionalism. It's somehow more exhausting to ignore when they're a front in the American culture wars.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

You would have to have Jordan quit in round 1 of the 1993 playoffs, initially stating because he had a mental issue and he would be harming the team, then the Bulls still make the NBA finals for it to compare.

That is the most insane, implausible scenario imaginable when you think about Michael Jordan.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

Okay next try.

The prominent basketball examples where players blatantly quit, Lebron with the Lakers and the 2010 Cavs, Kobe in 2007, back to Wilt in the 60’s; are always about sending a message that shows up their teammates. They’re saying to the front office and the world “You expect me to win titles, but look at these bozos you’ve surrounded me with.” Whatever reasoning they eventually settle on, Biles definitely wasn’t doing that.
