I know Boron. Desert folk are a different breed, man.

Does that explain some of the UNLV fans here?

The place I always think of as the place full of people who don't want to be bothered is Boron, CA. On Highway 58 between Mojave and Barstow.  My guess is that place is full of guys escaping something

Or they work here: https://www.borax.com/borax-operations/boron-california

Housing out there understandably costs next to nothing, those are well-paying union jobs and Mojave and Barstow are just as awful as Boron so if you work at the plant, you might as well live there.

It was a joke. GCU has not been accused of any wrongdoing. ASU did.  As the joke goes, the NCAA was so mad at LSU cheating they took scholarships away from Louisiana Tech. Or something like that.

Here is Tark's quote:

The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky they're going to give Cleveland State another year of probation.

Cheating in both basketball and football at ASU. Cheating at GCU. Ridiculous election auditing in Maricopa County. Mistreatment of little kids at their border.

Let's just kick the state of Arizona the phuck out of the Union.

That is California’s largest open pit mine.  I traveled up 395 from it's southern terminus near Cajon Pass to Sonora Junction (intersection with state route 108) a few years ago.  I took a my time and stopped at anything that interested me.  Back then they offered tours of the mine facility (I'm not sure that they still do).  It was really awesome to see.

Highway 395 seems to me to be the closest thing that we still have to the old Route 66 - lot's of open spaces, small funky towns, and off-the-grid people.

Funny, I think most Americans would say that about Nevada. Absolutely useless pile of sand.

Good fishing and hiking off 395.  Some good funky towns. Bodie and Mono Lake are cool. Mammoth.  Also Lone Pine is the jumping off spot to the Whitney Portal.
