1.3m jobs added

GDP up 21%,

Manufacturing up

Lots of talk of people leaving and a bad business environment don't seem to be manifesting in the numbers.

Isn't it mostly middle class people leaving and the reasons are cost of living, mostly housing, expenses?

Idk, the ones getting all the attention seem to have a higher profile (Musk, Rogan, that short guy with the squeaky voice). Numbers make it seem like the state has mostly lost dead weight.

Middle class?  I would say there is a lot  retirees and folks with great incomes who can WFH cashing out on top-end home values and moving to a quieter life.  Middle-class may be moving out, but I am guessing much of it is old and uppers.

California's economy is booming right now.  And if you go by GDP California did better than Florida and Texas during the pandemic.  Interestingly, Washington, Oregon and California where all in the top states based off of GDP.  The reason people leave is really because of housing or politics.  Some want a large house with a yard and they can't afford that in California.  And some want a more "conservative" approach to government and leave on those grounds.  But California still succeeds.

So wait a second... are you trying to tell me that our incompetent libtard socialist republik of Kalifornia leads the greatest economy on earth as the singular most bitchin' free market economy in the nation?

But but but... doomed I tell ya! What a bunch of alternate-reality living GQP f*cktards...

That makes sense.  I bet you are right.

Aren't companies pulling out too?  I recently heard/read that 17 Walgreens are leaving the LA area partly because the county pretty much just ignores shoplifting.

Dead weight, maybe? While jobs lost to companies relocating are lost jobs, the reality is the successful companies that remain in California are outperforming their peers in the rest of the country by leaps and bounds and investing in future growth that is offsetting the losses from relocation (of the 916K jobs added in March of this year, 119,600 were here in Cali). From the article:

Quote

That's not what the data shows. The 373 California-based companies in the Russell 2000 Index, which includes small-cap companies across the U.S., appreciated 39% the past two years and 85% since 2016, beating the benchmark's 34% and 67%, respectively. The same California companies reported revenue growth of 56% the past five years, dwarfing the benchmark's 34%, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. More important, California companies invested 16% of their revenues in R&D, or their future, when the rest of the U.S. put aside just 1%.

Agreed. My guess is that most of those work from home folks are higher income jobs, and retirees also make up a decent portion. A lot of middle class folks might not even have a California home to cash in on

Shit's booming here right now. It's taking off. Throw in the celebratory mood that's overcome the whole place as of today and it's going to be a great year going forward.

This is the place to be.

I've often wondered just how much emerging from the Spanish Flu pandemic contributed to the festive lifestyles we associate with the Gilded Age.

Sounds like a rebound from the Covid year which most states are seeing. We’re seeing the same thing in Idaho. I see hiring signs everywhere. Fast food places are paying $13-15 an hour up from $10-11 an hour several weeks ago because they can’t find people. Housing prices and rents are sky rocketing. Inflation could become an issue.

Traffic was almost normal yesterday, unfortunately. But I'll take the bad with the good on this one.

There's 83 Walgreens in LA.  So Walgreens is not 'pulling out' of LA.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

What decent size county doesn't ignore shoplifting, Washoe County included?
