I think many of you would be surprised what type of recruits UNLV would bring in with a PAC-12 next to their name.

I think you would be surprised what type of money the Las Vegas community would invest in UNLV if/when they are PAC-12.

It has always been our destiny to play at that level.  It is exciting how close it is to becoming reality.

UNLV is up to the task of competing with our peers at the top level.  Don't worry yourself about it.  We will take care of business and make you proud.

You will get to see us on the big stage.  It will be exciting for you.  You can talk about when you knew us.

UNLV can't compete in the MW.  And the problem isn't that they don't have the money to keep up with the other conference schools.  They just don't spend the money wisely.

Utah was already solid when we went there.  It took about 5 years to catch up in recruiting, coaching salaries etc.  KW went 5-7 a couple of years and one more more season like they he was rumored to be gone.

Now you take UNLV starting from a dumpster fire. They will never catch up.

Exactly, if UNLV produced top 25 and top 10 seasons like you guys did, different story.  But then Urban and then KW never had the mindset of (insert blank here) is holding us down like we see from certain UNLV fans.

Found out more about his past achievements...impressive resume.  This is much more about the upcoming media rights deal and where the conference wants to go.  With that kind of resume, it looks like Kilavkoff will usher the Pac-12 towards more of a digital future and possibly improve distribution of the P12N.  If the P12N ends up on ESPN+ even until the expiration of the current deal, I will be pleased.

I like this hire. 90% of this job is getting the most $$$ for your conference. The rest of it is just fluff

Our biggest hole right now is financial stability and clear direction  in terms of TV revenue.  A partnership with ESPN/Fox on our P12 channel or dump it. One thing he said is the conference schedule needs to be reworked.  Which tells me, he's talking about 8 games rather that 9.

I'm ok with this type of person leading out conference since it's all about money these days as long as he hires some help for sports. At the end of the days, it's the presidents and AD's job to improve results in revenue sports as long as the conference has given out teams a proper platform.

Now, PAC 12 will be P6 in no time!

UNLV Now was the horrible idea where we were going to put all the seats in the end-zones and put a mega-giant screen TV where the best seats on the 50 yard line are located right?  Dumbest idea in the history of mankind.  Put all the seats where nobody wants to sit and remove the best seats on the sidelines so we can put a big screen TV there?  Yeah sure.

That screen set up was never going to happen, but to have an on-campus stadium with restaurants, bars etc. in the surrounding area would’ve been a game changer. MGM made sure that was not going to happen at UNLV.

Nobody stopped UNLV from building an on-campus stadium.   We can build it right now if we want to.  But if and when we do, it must be done right.

It has to be a College Football Stadium not a Multipurpose Arena.  It is not for soccer or monster trucks or rugby.  It is for Football and Football ONLY!

It has to be outdoors, it has to look like a College Stadium.

Nobody says UNLV can't have bars or restaurants.  MGM has no control over that.  UNLV has to hire someone with a vision, not a vision to go somewhere else but a vision that is best for the University long term.  That involves someone who is willing to work hard and not just have bake offs and rib cook offs on their summer party tour!  We need hard nosed WORKERS who want to fix the problems, not people looking to pad their resumes to leave.

UNLV sending losing Football and Basketball coaches on party tours to race Nascar and have cookoffs at the new stadium is a bad look.  It says we suck and we don't care.  Winners don't do that $hit.  You think Chris Ault was doing summer party tours after going 0-12.  NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

A new basketball arena will be needed soon.  An On-Campus Football Stadium will always be needed until it is built.

That is a lot of work I am talking about.  I am not seeing a lot of hard workers wanting to put in that type of effort at UNLV right now   If you want to have a gummy bear challenge, they are up for it but doing work is something else.  Asking a lot.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a group of fans this far out of touch with reality.  I’ve been around awhile too. There’s some logical UNLV fans here but Rob has lost it. He wants everyone to overlook 30 years of failure from an athletic department. Claiming if they had money, it would be different.

Rob is completely right. 10 years ago we’d have been laughed at for even suggesting the NHL and NFL could land in Vegas. Now look where we’re at with discussions of MLB as well. These things only help the prestige of a city’s system of higher education.

How?

Pro sports are all over the country and none of them are helping a system of higher education.  Pro sports are pro sports. Talk to us in 20-30 years and then we will see if Vegas has supported pro sports. You have to have some history behind this before anyone is going to take LV seriously, so I’d suggest you slow your role.

the PAC 12 does not pay out $40 million per year

they pay out about $32.2 million per year and they will probably never get to $40 in the life of their current deal

there is little to suggest that adding any of the AVAILABLE programs would add enough revenue to a new TV deal to cover the $48+ million per team needed to keep up with the Big 10 or SEC SEC SEC much less add enough over and above what the current deal pays out to get all the PAC 12 teams to $48+ million

the payout of course is not just TV money it is all money, but still any new teams to the PAC 12 will be bringing in no NCAA credits and people (that are dumb) always talk about "more bowl teams", but of course the contracts for the top level bowls that actually pay out enough to make money for the conference are already in place.......any additional bowl games and bowl teams would be for lower level bowls that lose money for the conference so no benefit at all

so basically to add teams and still keep close to the Big 10 and SEC SEC SEC (or even the Big 12) the PAC 12 needs teams that basically cover their $48 million each in revenues needed per team either through the value for TV dollars or the NCAA credits they would have to earn (and not earn at the EXPENSE of other PAC 12 members, but in addition to other PAC 12 members continuing to earn at the same level)

it seems unlikely that two teams are available that would make that happen

also it would not be a straight addition of $32.2 million new dollars even IF the PAC 12 did not require a buy in.......because a team leaving say the MWC as an example will still be giving up the $5 million or so paid out by the MWC.......so it would be more like $27.5 million in new dollars......and if one added that to the current $50 million budget of UNLV that would be $77.5 million which would be squarely at the very bottom of any P5 athletics budgets and that is KEEPING the full $25 million academic side subsidy.....the lowest P5 budget being WSU last reported at $76.3 and then Oregon State at $82.3

so adding another team that would be in the lowest levels of P5 budgets when the PAC 12 already has 6 of the lowest 15 P5 budgets seems like a recipe for disaster.....all the more so when to get to those budget numbers many PAC 12 schools are taking very high academic side subsides (some of the highest on the P5 on a per dollar and number of teams doing so basis) and also many of them are still running actual deficits in the millions per year over the last few years even when INCLUDING those academic side subsidies.....the PAC 12 also has a very high debt load for many of their members well above the P5 average

YOU WANT TRADITION? WELL......HERE 'TIS......The University of North Texas has football wins over: Texas Tech U......Rice U......Baylor U......TCU......SMU......Houston......Oklahoma State......San Diego St.......Kansas State......Arizona State.......Colorado State......Brigham Young......Oregon State......Florida......Indiana......Tennessee (a 6 & 5 SEC team & still our biggest win in school history)......Boise State......Louisville......Cincinatti (our last match-up with UC was a UNT bowl win), plus FOUR (4) NCAA FBS level Bowl Games (one while having a losing season record) in this millennium's 1'st decade while North Texas has had ONE NCAA Division 1 Top 20 ranking.

The North Texas Mean Green Village (located between 2 Texas interstates & which a recent TxDOT study said 200,000 vehicles drive by it daily) is a multi-acre olympic style village of athletc venues*dorms*computer study centers, etc, topped off with what GIL BRANDT: The Father of Modern NFL Scouting who described UNT's Apogee Stadium as a "Tah Mahal of a College Football Stadium" with Brandt adding... 'and I've seen every NCAA D1 FB stadium in the USA." All this along with UNT's fabulous 10,000 seat Super Pit--the Best & Largest on-campus college basketball venue in the D-FW Metroplex......AND THREE PONDS AND A BRIDGE!!!!!

Are you guys living in the 1980's or something?

The NFL already had the Las Vegas market wrapped up but guess what, they still came here.

NHL had the Las Vegas market wrapped up and they still came here.

MLB already owns the Las Vegas market, so why would they move here?  It makes no sense right?  According to you dipshits.

Why would PAC-12 teams want yearly trips to Las Vegas for all sports?  Why partner with a program located in the sports capital of the world according to the PAC-12 commissioner?

UNLV to the PAC-12 has been on a crash course for a long time and it is inevitable.  Easy to see this one coming if you have any sort of foresight at all.

Or you can pretend that this is 1982 and decisions are being made like it is 1982.

You are probably the same retards that said Rutgers had no shot at the Big Ten.

Vegas is literally 50-60-70 years behind most American metros when it come to pro sports. You’re all fired up because you are joining a party that’s already been going on forever.  Most metros have already learned not to spend public money on stadiums and arenas because they already did that in the 60’s-70’s, but you all are doing it because you never have done it and don’t know any better. The only reason the Raiders are in LV is because you built Mark Davis a stadium he couldn’t afford to build himself.  The Davis’ are legacy posers in an NFL full of billionaires. Davis doesn’t have the money it takes to be a real NFL owner these days, so he had to find a city that would build him a stadium.  Viva Las Vegas.  That’s why he’s there.  It’s that simple.

If UNLV's Football schedule looked like this, we would average 50,000+ fans per game.

USC

UCLA

Arizona

Arizona State

Colorado

Utah

Washington

Oregon

Stanford

BYU

unr

Hawaii

And this is what it will look like very soon.

I’m waiting to see if the Raiders can average 50,000 fans. I’m not even sure that can happen without a lot of outside support from visiting teams fans.

Raiders are sold out.

Most expensive resale tickets in the NFL.

It took Utah about 15 years to improve an already good profile.  So when does UNLV get started?

San Jose State has a pretty respectable football program. Now you tell me why they will NEVER even be in the conversation for a P5 conference. I think we all know the answer. Don’t both answering, it’s rhetorical.
