OT: MLB to Vegas??

This is why I think Mayor Goodman is going to throw everything at the As to get to build the stadium in the downtown Las Vegas area. For the Las Vegas locals how's the Stewart Ave & Las Vegas Blvd location that's across from Zappos? It looks like a good location with the freeway right there.

Downtown is downtown. There’s been so many attempts to revitalize it but the fact remains unless they raze the majority of buildings and casinos down there the place will never be what the mayor envisions. It’s a dilapidated dirty part of town and a new baseball stadium would stick out like a sore thumb just like the new Circa hotel does.

I tend to agree that the WNBA team in a tiny arena located out in the burbs, but it works for the AAA Aviators out in Summerlin - WNBA might be better suited to one of the Strip arenas

I was surprised VGK owner Foley bought the IFL franchise

I think the move to the burbs makes sense for the WNBA. Attendance is only around 4k per game and I doubt much of that is driven by tourists who come to town. Moving to Henderson probably makes financial sense for the Aces, which is why they'll never get in bed with UNLV on an expensive arena on the strip, regardless of how many crazy ideas RR floats on the subject.

So raze a cluster of the old shit, build a stadium w/ a huge retail area near Fremont Experience and Container Park. Out with the old, in with the new!

It's perfect! 81 games of bringing 35-40k people to pump downtown full of cash. Would be transformational!

The place to put it in downtown is where the Plaza is located.  It needs to be knocked down (Plaza) and that end of the Fremont street should be extended into a new Baseball stadium.

The other location close to the city of Las Vegas and downtown is in my image below near Circus Circus.  That side of the street needs to be redone and Circus Circus knocked down and rebuilt with a baseball stadium next to it.

NHL will never go to Vegas, NFL will never allow Las Vegas to have a team.  NBA will never play in Las Vegas because of gambling.  NCAA won't allow tournament events in Las Vegas because of gambling.  In 1990 I was told Las Vegas would never grow any larger or add anymore Hotels because the market will never be there for any more hotel rooms.

You don't know what you are talking about.  Las Vegas was built on crazy ideas and dreamers talking about expensive things that never will or should get built.

We won't stop dreaming of making Las Vegas better and it doesn't matter what you say.  You are wrong.

There are some people who don’t believe that men from planet earth have actually set foot on the moon. And there are also some people who don’t believe that anything else will ever be built in Las Vegas.  Skeptics being skeptics, there may be no winning some people over.

Las Vegas will continue to thrive, grow and create exciting new ideas. UNLV will be a part of that even though that hurts some of your feelings.  Many of you come from places where you were always told no, that can't happen and you aren't good enough.

In Las Vegas, anything is possible and we are going to have more money than we know what to do with in the near future so might as well start coming up with ideas on how to spend it now!

I'm not a Vegas hater.....I just think RR is an idiot. There's a big difference.

Sometimes the worst place you can be is in your own head.  Stop thinking so much.  No one cares what you think.

I don't know who told you that in 1990 or why you would remember such a thing. Nevada was the fastest growing state in U.S. for 40+ years, so whoever made that comment was/is an idiot. You've also said that UNLV will be in the PAC 10/12 once they get a stadium on campus and/or start playing in Allegiant, which falls squarely into the "dreamers will be dreamers" category. But bringing up the growth of Vegas only highlights the challenges that UNLV faces. As Vegas grows and adds pro teams, UNLV will suffer more and more. If the NBA comes to Vegas, which it will, UNLV basketball will suffer.

I don't think you've been to main street/arts district in a while. It's probably the hottest commercial market in town.

Memphis Tigers (#7 in NCAA attendance) - Memphis Grizzlies

UCLA Bruins - LA Lakers

Houston Cougars - Houston Rockets

Arizona State Sun Devils - Phoenix Suns

Utah Utes - Utah Jazz

If these schools can all survive and in some cases thrive (Final Four this year for UCLA & Houston, NIT Championship for Memphis) I don't find it hard to believe that UNLV will find a way to do the same thing.  I am always way ahead of the curve on what is coming for UNLV/LV and talking about a new Basketball arena in the 12,000 seat range is what will eventually happen for UNLV Basketball.  The T&M is 40 years old and was built for time period that has long since passed.  UNLV will need a modern arena that fits the needs of the modern world that we live in.

When the Mirage opened in Las Vegas in 1989 it set off a building boom in Las Vegas but at the time of its opening many people were skeptics on whether or not Steve Wynn could even pay the bills to keep the Mirage open and they didn't think he would be able to fill up the 3,000 rooms.  We have always had people who doubted Las Vegas and predicted the end over and over and over again.  They are always wrong.

UNLV will thrive as the city continues to grow.  Pro Sports and the emergence of Las Vegas as the sports capital of the world won't hurt UNLV, it will only make UNLV stronger.  You limit yourself with your thinking, you don't limit Las Vegas.  You are a small time person who has no foresight and no vision.  You are a failure in your life so you want to project that negativity onto others.  It won't work.  Las Vegas is better than you and always will be.

The only failure in this scenario is UNLV. You've been saying the same thing for 20 years.  My guess is there might be a few 1000 UNLV fans in Vegas tops.

If UNLV isn't a draw in vegas now, adding additional pro sports teams will only make things worse.

You've been predicting UNLV greatness since I joined this board over 10 years ago.  How much longer will we be waiting?

You would be wrong as usual.  When UNLV is a Top 25 Basketball Program our attendance will be in the Top 25 in the country (13,000 or more average).

When/if UNLV was to be #1 in the country, our attendance would be Top 5 in the country (as we have proven before with 18,000+).

Our rankings have a direct correlation to our attendance figures.  If we are #125 in the country, guess what our attendance will be?

Same holds true for UNLV Football.

Las Vegas is a town that loves winners and despises losers.  When UNLV wins (which they will) we will be unmatched in the West with enthusiasm and support.

No Western Basketball program (BYU maybe) has ever been able to put up attendance numbers that UNLV has proven to do.

The same thing is true with any program.  Winning cures most ills.  But UNLV even being decent is becoming a rare event in basketball and it almost never happens in football.  How many winning seasons are there in UNLV FB history?  Even when they a half way good season in basketball, they can never keep it going.

It's always "next year" for you guys.  And every year of suckage results in fewer fans showing up and fewer young people becoming Rebel fans.
