The young carpenter that went to a trade school and learned a trade is making $22 an hour just getting by, and suddenly he’s not making much above min. wage and at the same time inflation rises sharply. With the cost of living rising, he defaults on his student loan and can’t pay his mortgage and forecloses. To take care of his family, he has to get a sleazy apartment in a bad area. His sons become gang members and get shot to death for resisting cops. Then the father sues the police dept, and wins. He blows his money in Vegas and the casinos use his money to pay their top executives ridiculous money, and you just contributed in another blow to the middle class. Then a drunk casino executive driving fast wrecks his sports car into the carpenter and kills him and his wife. They both go to hell because they rejected God for allowing all their bad luck and God not stopping the rise of min. wage to $15 an hour.

@thelawlorfaithful

could you please provide a punched up adaptation of this story for us?

This is beyond my ability to parody. This needs 30 million dollars and a so sincere it’s garbage Oscar bait screenplay.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

In my mind the 112 minutes between your reaction and this post were entirely you attempting to create a parody, shaking your head in frustration, tossing it, trying again, and finally determining the impossibility of mockery

the devaluing of money? Sure. We simply only measure the things in our inflation index whose cost is decreasing because those things are also where the majority of our productivity gains are. We helpfully exclude housing costs and medical costs and food costs and energy costs due to their volatility. Perfect! we exclude only those things that you absolutely require to live and also now consist most of our costs.

So you know a little bit about inflation.

Why are you always wrong? Trade schools cost money. This particular trade school for carpenters is $33,000 per year. Some students get grants to cover a lot of it, some don't.

You could go to college for carpentry

or you could... go get paid to be a carpenter

maybe we should give convert a break, we all know how inflation... makes it harder to pay off debt... 🙃

that 8% of the workforce getting a raise would crush the carpenter and his low 3 figure student debt

Good Grief

Almost any JC will train in the trades for a fraction of that and hook you up to an apprenticeship

Not sure that there are many jobs out there at $7.25 hr, except for maybe teenagers...

But people have little incentive to rejoin the work force for certain jobs right now, when you get paid more on unemployment.

Maybe it is time for CEOs to take a paycut and to give a pay raise to workers to attract them?  You don't have to have a Harvard MBA to know it is time for the gap between the average CEO and the average worker to shrink.  That, however, is one reason I like UBI...  You don't have to give up your UBI if you get a job like you do with most welfare benefits.  That is a STUPID way to run a welfare program and disincentivizes work.  They just need to get rid of unemployment completely and give everyone UBI regardless of if they have a job or not as to not disincentivize work by forcing someone to take a risk to go to work and giving up their government check.

I completely agree with you.   CEO pay is way, way too high in the United States.

What are you proposing for UBI?   Only thing I heard is $1000 per month from Andrew Yang.   The problem with that is printing extra money to pay for it.   We both know that Democrats and Republicans won't raise taxes (they are corporatists) and so we would need to print more paper.
