No, they didnt.  What they is set up an integrated ESPN+ add on for Hulu.  Said add-on will cost Hulu subscribers an additional 5.99 if they choose to do so.  It is like a cable subscriber buying an additional premium service.  So it is unlikely to add 40 million subscribers.  Just make it easier TO subscribe.

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Disney announced last year that they were going to merge ESPN+ with Hulu and their 40 million subscribers.

The Walt Disney Company announced that its sports streaming service ESPN+ had 12.1 million U.S. subscribers at the end of its first fiscal quarter of 2021. The service accumulated a good number of subscribers since Disney's first fiscal quarter of 2019, growing its subscriber base from 1.4 million to over 12 million since then.

Pretty sure I am not the only one watching.  50 million people with access to ESPN+ now and growing.  And I am not middle aged.

Someone was saying you are in your mid-50s on here.... my bad.

I will say that I sort of agree with you that MWC schools joining the AAC for all sports isn't plausible.  (UNLV basketball in the Pacific Time zone, and it wouldn't work playing schools in the Eastern Time zone).

Only way it happens is if there is a new conference formed, and BYU, Houston, SMU, and UNLV would need to start that.   But so far, there is no discussion of it ever happening.

Yeah it is available to anyone on Hulu.  Just like the MWC TV deal with all of pay extra for channels if you want to watch your team.

The UNR vs UNLV rivalry in basketball and football has never been more even and competitive.    Reno vs Las Vegas.

It's a good regional fit.

Honestly, the MWC has some decent rivalries.   But in-state rivalries are always the best.

SJSU---FRESNO  (these two schools have a thing for each other)

UNLV---UNR

WYO---CSU (pseudo in-state rivalry)

BOISE---USU (potato rivalry)

No natural in-conference rivals

SDSU---(they had a rivalry with BYU)

UNM---their rival is NMSU

AFA---their rival is Navy and Army

BOISE---(they have a current rivalry with BYU. but in the past had a thing with Reno and Fresno, when they were in the same division)

Do people really want to break this up?  @RebelRobert

Realignment destroys a lot of rivalries.

No I am not mid 50's I am not anywhere near 50!

A new National Conference will have to be formed in the next few years for College Playoff purposes and to maximize profit for the elite programs in the country that have mistakenly been left out of the major conferences.  By joining together they will form a conference with better overall cities than many of the so called power conferences, better road trips, better TV numbers and more excitement with the National layout of the conference.

UNLV, SDSU, BYU, Boise, New Mexico, Colorado State, Houston and SMU should be the basis for the Western portion of the new conference.

Options

If you want to start small: just invite Memphis, Cincinnati and Gonzaga (All Sports but Football)

If you want to go medium All Sports: Invite Memphis, Cincinnati, UCF, USF (6 West/6 East)

If you want to go Medium/Large with a Mix:  Invite Memphis, Cincinnati, UCF, USF, Gonzaga, Wichita State

If you want to go Large All Sports:  Invite Memphis, Cincinnati, UCF, USF, Fresno, Hawaii, Tulsa, Tulane (8 West/8 East)

If you want to go Large with a Mix:  Invite Memphis, Cincinnati, UCF, USF, Fresno, Tulsa, Gonzaga, Wichita State (14 Football/16 Basketball)

If you want to go Extra Large:  Invite Memphis, Cincinnati, UCF, USF, Fresno, Hawaii, Tulsa, Tulane, Gonzaga & Wichita State (16 Football/18 Basketball)

I prefer the small option but could live with the medium or medium/large mix.

RSF is a Trust Fund kid that used his Dad's money to attend Texas Christian University----basically the same as all non-athletes at TCU.

(Undergrad Tuition is $51,000 per year to attend that school)

Most people in the MWC or even BYU don't relate to the Trust Fund Kid mentality, as most here are self-made......TCU tuition is a foreign concept.

But hell... Texas Christian is in the BIG12, so I'm not sure why we is arguing with a lowly AAC fan.    AAC G5.

Don't most parents pay for their children's college education?

I’d say at most your statement is woefully ignorant.  The majority of college students don’t have their tuition paid by their parents. Maybe you were also trolling, no clue on this site anymore.

A lot do, but mine didnt.  Never had the money. I put myself thru TCU. And when they were in better shape financially, they helped my sister go to Winona State in Minnesota.  And with both of my parents headed to assisted living in the not to distant future, we are returning the favor and taking care of them now.

And I've been blessed enough that when the time comes, Ill be able to pay it forward and help my daughter with college.  Although if she wants to go to TCU, the password is 'scholarship'. 😉

Like I said...stunner has been slipping.  More than a little bitter, too, perhaps.

This is one of the odder thread hijackings I have seen, though.

Why is it any of those things?

I think it's a pretty normal thing. My parents put 3 through college and I'm currently helping put 3 thru, with one more to go.

Will you expect your children to do it all on their own?

I think it's a pretty normal thing for parents to pay, or at least help pay, for their children's education.

What the hell is "privledged" about helping your children?

Won't you help yours? Or would that mean they're privileged?

It's one thing to pony up a little cash if the kid is short on rent, it's totally different to "pay their way".  I paid my own way through CSU, my dad paid his own way through Notre Dame.  My brother and his wife paid their own way through CSU (he has a masters, she has a Phd.).  Both of my sisters paid their own way through CU.  I know very few people who didn't pay for their own college either through loans or jobs (and usually a combination of the two).  I'm not going to go privileged, or especially "racist" on you, but your making some assumptions that just don't hold water.  Most folks don't get their education covered by mom and dad.  My folks were absolutely in a position to cover college for me, and they refused.  Looking back, I'm thankful for that.  At the time, I didn't get it.  Now I do, and so do my kids.
