Half of Republicans believe false accounts of deadly U.S. Capitol riot

Recommended Posts

Quote

Since the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, former President Donald Trump and his Republican allies have pushed false and misleading accounts to downplay the event that left five dead and scores of others wounded. His supporters appear to have listened.

Three months after a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol to try to overturn his November election loss, about half of Republicans believe the siege was largely a non-violent protest or was the handiwork of left-wing activists “trying to make Trump look bad,” a new Reuters/Ipsos poll has found.

Six in 10 Republicans also believe the false claim put out by Trump that November’s presidential election “was stolen” from him due to widespread voter fraud, and the same proportion of Republicans think he should run again in 2024, the March 30-31 poll showed.

So... what I'm taking from this is that 50-60% of Republicans are idiots.

'Murica!  +++++ yeah!

"Most indicative is nearly one-third of respondents believed the government is concealing information about 'the North Dakota crash,' a theory we asked about that — to our knowledge — we made up."

I own a vehicle likely worth more than everything you own combined and just flew first class (including a ticket for a 2 1/2 year old), round trip to Las Vegas and I'm not 35 yet. When you accomplish something outside of finishing a book, let me know. When's the last time you saw a 2 year old fly first class in their own seat? Don't tell me about elite.

there are still GOPers that believe Obama is a foreigner and his birth certificate is faked.

There's a reason the republican party is also called the "party of Stupid" :shrug:

Shit most Americans think a capitol policeman was beaten to death by a rioter with a fire extinguisher because it was presented in the media and democrat pols ad nauseum.  But it never happened

So I guess there is a lot of misinformation all around.

Yet the insurrection wouldn't have happened but for Trump's big lie.

Trump behaved irrespsonsibly, no argument there.

Just to be clear though, that doesnt change the fact that the popular narrative  that rioters killed a policeman at the capitol is false, never happened, and pols and the media knew it never happened, yet repeated it anyway, despite the wishes of his widow

Over half of Republicans also apparently believe that Trump is the President because the election was stolen.

A 58 percent majority of Clinton supporters say they accept Trump’s election, while 33 percent do not. Questions about Trump’s victory are passionate — 27 percent of Clinton supporters feel “strongly” he did not win legitimately.

While that is ridiculous, I just want to point out that 27% and 53% are not the same.
