SJSU B-ball Head Coach Interviews

As I've said here before a time or two, after getting my MBA from SDSU, I returned to the Bay Area to become the only white collar employee of a small non-profit organization. I could have remained in SD to be third down the totem pole in a quasi-governmental organization for about 25% more money but discussed the two offers with my parents and after hearing the facts, they asked me this. Would I be inclined to stay at either job permanently. My answer was not a chance. I had just gotten married for the first time and Dad and Mom told me they would help us out if I took the Bay Area job because it would look so much better on my resume. I took their advice and stayed for two years and my parents were 100% on the button correct.

So I don't for a minute think the guy we're talking about took the HEAD coaching job at UCR for any reason different than why I took that job in the Bay Area. Bottom line is that dude is now so situated that there's now no way he would benefit from going to SJSU.

Patrick left UCR in July 2020.  Going from a couple years as a head coach there to an associate head coach at Arkansas likely involved a pay increase - amazing given UCR finished in 6th place in the Big West in '19-'20 - but I doubt he's that well off after only one year.

How does Patrick benefit from going to SJSU?  He would be in charge of his own program again. One where he won't have to worry about whether or not the whole athletic department is in jeopardy, as was the case at UCR.

By the way, UCR was 14-8 this year with a NET ranking of 109.  Yes, Rivertucky was a fringe top-100 team all season.  All with Patrick's players and a new head coach.  They even climbed as high as the mid 80s in NET ranking at one point.  Had Patrick stuck around, they would have upset USC.

Patrick would be an affordable, excellent hire for SJSU if they can get him.  He was building UCR up prior to his sudden departure. With a comparatively more stable environment at SJSU, he would build them up too.

Seriously? Ever heard of the Fab Five fiasco? For which the NCAA found no guilt for Fish but which resulted in his discharge by Michigan so his options were limited. And Fish saw that SDSU had just built a GD, brand spanking new arena! :hahaha:

No shit. You think there weren't critics who thought he could rebrand himself at a basketball school better than SDSU??

El oh el! Sounds like you were in your 20s. Patrick is in his 40s. You were starting off. Patrick is going after another promotion. Your anecdote is a terrible comparison.

Patrick was an assistant at St. Mary's between 2006-2010, so he already has at least some familiarity with the Bay Area.  Then again, SJSU is a far cry from Moraga (and vice-versa)...

Now an unexpected development! The Spartans' 24/7 reporter posted that Tim Miles is now being followed by Sr. Assoc. AD- Blake Sasaki. He is spearheading the interview process. Two other senior admins started following Miles as well. Interesting! :hmmm:

Edit: Correction! Miles is following Sr. Assoc. AD Sasaki.

My sources are saying that the David Patrick hire will be announced tomorrow.  Details of the contract are being worked out.  5 year contract worth $600,000 per year.

Per usual. Right on cue.

Tim Miles? Uh... that’s a hell yes from me. Is this a late April fools joke? I haven’t been excited for a basketball head coaching hire.

Yea that’s just the end of that sentence.

One of his co-workers at the porno theatre he mops jizz at.

Honestly, I think it's his dad.  IIRC, he let that slip quite some time ago.

I think he also makes shit up and attributes it to his "sources."
