Long term, it looks like Kevin Kruger’s focus is on high school players, which is good.  And he’s offering good ones as well.

Success in terms of conference tourney and NCAA tourney wins is what will determine his success in landing those players.  As with anything, winning breeds winning.

You’re really reaching here. Especially when he tweeted specifically about UNLV having a “deep transfer class” and how much he likes Nuga.

I know you saw it because on the same tweet you ask him to rank Jenkins. Almost like you wanted him to rank Jenkins ahead of Nuga so you could run in here and try to rub it in our faces. Jeffy boy ignored you though 🥺.

He didnt ignore me. He has the info on ESPN+ which is subscription-based.

Pain.

Does anyone know if ADs have buyouts similar to coaches? If so, hopefully it’s minuscule and it’s only a matter of time before somewhere woker than UNLV (that’s a tough one) decides to let us offload her on their admin.

I think that next year’s team will be better than this year’s team.  There’s more balance to next year’s roster, and they should be able to generate more turnovers and force tougher shots.

Way to really go out on a limb.

Yeah, he ignored you. You asked a question and there’s no reply.

OK. So here’s the answer:

Borzello has them ranked as follows:

Bryce Hamilton - 35

David Jenkins Jr. - 59

Mbacke Diong - 67

Mike Nuga - just outside the Top 100.

That would mean that in Borzello’s eyes, Nuga is not an upgrade over Jenkins. Thats all I was trying to understand. Whether its true or not, we’ll have to wait and see.

The goal should be to sign three freshman a year.  Knowing that these Freshman have the option to transfer one time without sitting out.

Any attrition or deficiency in scholarship numbers each season should be filled through use of the transfer portal.  For UNLV some great options of former four star players from Major Universities who are Freshman and Sophomores who realize they will be riding the pine.  Knowing that these players have been developed at a Big-12/BigTen/ACC/SEC/BigEast/PAC-12 level will be beneficial for UNLV in bringing them in.

If done correctly, UNLV should be bringing in three freshman and between 1-3 transfer portal players per year.

No reason that UNLV's three freshman recruits shouldn't consist of four star players (similar to this year before we lost them).

When UNLV is only in need of 1-3 players from the portal, we can be selective and the players we choose should all be former 4 star players.

The Transfer Portal is huge for a program like UNLV.  We are very attractive to former four star recruits who are freshman or sophomores at Top 25 programs but haven't been able to break into the rotation yet.  Once we get them to Vegas and they have used up their free pass transfer opportunity we have the ability to really invest in them and develop their talents.

Again, the goal should be to sign the best three freshman players you can get each year (preferable all four stars or higher but the occasional three star with potential is acceptable).  Whatever attrition you have with guys leaving in the transfer portal, you replace them with equal or better talent that will be available to UNLV in the transfer portal.

Once Kevin has us in the Top 25 and a yearly tournament team, UNLV and Las Vegas will attract the best talent in the world and we will destroy everyone!  If someone stays within 15 points of us it will be a miracle.  BUILD THIS THING.

UNLV extends athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois’ contract

UNLV extended athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois’ contract by four years, taking her through June 30, 2026.

Her new base salary is $420,000, up from $350,000.

I guess this buys her more time to find her dream job.  I don't understand giving raises and contract extensions to people who don't want to be at the University?

It doesn't matter. We've seen Jenkins at this level. Offensively he's a specialist. Defensively he's a minus player.

It looks like UNLV is getting a far more athletically gifted and well-rounded, two-way player.

Probably not an upgrade in the shooting dept, but an upgrade every where else.

He's clearly giving BHam/Diong/Jenkins the benefit of the doubt because they're coming out of an upper tier midmajor like UNLV (name brand school) as opposed to a Kent St.

Bham's ranking is justified. No way Diong Jenkins are 67 and 59 out of 1200!! LOL

Jenkins did nothing but jack up 3s and jog back on defense. He was benched for half the conference season by Otz for his effort and lack of leadership.

Diong is one of my favorite players, great character. But he's the most unathletic, flat footed near 7-footer we've had since Carlos Lopez. Passes routinely clumsily bounced off his stone hands in the post, and if he could catch it in the post he always had to put on the floor first (drives me nuts when bigs do this!! Use your height and length and just go up with it!) No post moves to speak big.

The only good thing about the DRF extension is that UNLV can have some stability rather than a new admin coming in wanting their own coaches etc.

This.  Kev has time to build this thing without the pressure of a new AD gunning to get their own coach.

This extension appears to be nothing more than a professional courtesy to give DRF more time to find another position elsewhere. Her contract at UNLV was coming up and it is a bad look to let it run out on a minority hire.  This drawing out of the contract gives DRF time to find another position and since she applies for every opening that comes available, it is only a matter of time until she finds some school desperately in need of a diversity hire.

UNLV needs to have a contingency plan ready to go because it is unlikely DRF will be around 12 months from now.  She is applying for any and every opening at this point so you know she already has one foot out the door.  This extension was just a polite professional way to try to help speed up that process by making it look as though she will be at UNLV for the long term (which we all know is not true).  You want employees who love to work for UNLV and want to see it succeed long term.  DRF has already shown that she cares only about the short term gains which will help her professionally accelerate her career goals and any moves she makes are to make sure her resume is stacked with accomplishments (whether she is responsible for them or not).  She is a classic job hopper and not what UNLV Athletics needs.

Some of you may be naïve and believe that DRF is going to change her innate nature.  This idea that a four year extension means she is here for the long haul is ridiculous and anyone who believes this has the mind of a child.  Since the day DRF arrived she has made clear by her actions and behavior what her goals are and that is to LEAVE.  A leopard never changes its spots and you can't blame a clown for acting like a clown, you have to blame yourself for buying tickets to the circus!

UNLV must be prepared to hire someone who loves UNLV and Las Vegas.  Someone who would want the job for the long term and won't be applying elsewhere within the first year or two of accepting the position.  DRF knows she has already burned bridges and the writing is on the wall that she has to find something else or her career is stalled and likely over.  She will put on a full court press to find something else IMMEDIATELY.  Mark my words and come look at this thread one year from now.

What he is saying, is he thinks the the players leaving are better than what's coming in.

He might be right.  So what?

If Lon, Craig Smith, Dutch, Muss, or any good coach, had that same group, Vegas would have been a much better team last season.

There is no doubt in my mind that Vegas has gotten better this off season, no matter how the players are rated.

Dave Rice did better with Lon's recruits than he did with his guys who had the stars and hype behind them.

The only guy Vegas will miss is Bryce.
