Pacific Coast League is gone

Recommended Posts

Now called AAA West League. AAA is doing everything it can to limit travel including increasing length of series. Reno signed a 10-year deal with Diamondbacks. I feel for Fresno. It somehow got screwed in this process.

IMO, is this the future? I wouldn’t be surprised to see the two-game series experience extended in the MWC. As costs continue to spiral this is a way to reduce expenses.

That's a temp name.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30887636/mlb-announces-changes-minor-league-structure-featuring-120-team-regional-alignment

The leagues have not yet been named. Major league owners, commissioner Rob Manfred and his staff have not decided whether to retain the traditional names of the leagues, such as the International and Pacific Coast at Triple-A, the Eastern, Southern and Texas at Double-A, and the California, Florida State and South Atlantic, which had been at Class A.

For now, MLB is calling the minor league groupings Triple-A East and West, Double-A Central, Northeast and South, High-A Central, East and West, and Low-A East, Southeast and West. There are geographic subdivisions within each league.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Fresno drops from AAA to Low A. Former teams that were in New Orleans/ Wichita and Colorado Springs/ don't recall dropped to AA. Sugarland Skeeters jumped from Indy to PCL. St Paul Saints also jumped from indy to AAA. St Paul and Jacksonville (jumping from AA) are moving to the East AAA league.

I was excited because the Hops league is moving to High A from rookie league, buf I guess Boise got cut from that league.

So freaking happy that Reno somehow escaped the "knife".

Hope they still have $2 beer night every Thursday

There’s ZERO chance they do back to back games against the same team when things normalize.

That's unfortunate for Fresno; it'll likely affect attendance.  Guys don't jump from A level to the majors.

Strange,

Fresno metro has a half million + peeps. Downtown stadium isn't that old.

The aura of watching a higher level of sports is what beings fans.  Let's be honest.  The people who watch a low level team are true sports aficionados, but they won't fill the stands.  The average fan could care less.  It will likely show in the attendance when they were AAA vs the now A.

The Fresno ownership group is receiving a cash payment for the drop in level which impacts the team value.

Additionally, the MLB demotion agreement with Fresno includes a clause that Fresno will be the priority city for a new AAA team when the Major Leagues expand or a current AAA team wants to relocate.

I don't think changing the levels of minor league baseball don't mean anything to the average fan.  As long as there is a game, that's all they care about.  For Fresno, why I feel sorry for them since their ballpark is suited for Triple-A baseball, as long as they are playing a game, that's all they can hope for now.  Things might change again when the pandemic is over.
