No more divisions?

That’s what Murray is proposing. I like the idea and the protected rivalries.  We should seriously consider doing it.

Here are the protected rivalries for each team he’s proposing:

MW protected rivalries

Air Force — Wyoming, Colorado State, New Mexico

Boise State — Fresno State, Nevada, San Diego State

Colorado State — Wyoming, Air Force, Utah State

Fresno State — Boise State, Nevada, San Jose State

Hawaii — UNLV, San Jose State, New Mexico

Nevada — UNLV, Boise State, Fresno State

The Cal State three should play each other every year...

I like my idea of two divisions better. One with old WAC teams (Boise, Fresno, Jose, USU, Hawaii, Nevada). One with old Mountain leftovers (CSU, SDSU, Wyoming, AFA, UNLV, UNM).

If UNLV-UNR isn’t on conference schedule, they could do it non-conference those years. (Same with Fresno/Suds.)

Hmmm.  The SECWAC has a nice ring to it.

I prefer divisions as well.  UH has rivalries with all of the western division teams and I wouldn't want to lose any of those games.  By comparison there isn't a single team in the eastern division that not having on the schedule bothers me in any particular season.

If we stick with divisions, would schools prefer to keep the current schedule format to play cross-division schools in back-to-back years or change it so cross-division opponents are different every year?

I think a big complaint is that some schools don't get to play each other as often as they like, so maybe spreading those games out to every other year could be a solution?

I like the divisions.  The regionality is as good as SDSU can ask for. The conference is fine with this alignment so long as it doesn't grow.

I liked them more when I was still living in Laramie. Having a guaranteed chance to see them play in Fort Collins or the Springs every year would be much better than trading those games with road trips to California or Hawaii

So does he still think SJSU should be kicked out?

I prefer the division setup. I would say just do one protected cross division rivalry, but other then UNR-Boise and maybe Hawaii-Wyoming (that’s a rivalry right?) none of the matchups seem like they NEED to be played every year, although I would like to play USU annually for WAC nostalgia purposes.

I think it would be better if they stopped doing the cross-divisional games in two year blocks though.

I like the current setup.  I don't care one way or another if they rotate the cross-division stuff annually or bi-annually.

One point on protected rivalries...there will be plenty of unhappiness no matter how you line them up.

SUDS needs to be on this list over any of these three.  Non-negotiable.

I completely agree!

1 SUDS

2. Hawaii

3 Boise

4. JOSER
