Yes I did! Almost 11Km! Insane, right??? And as a bonus, it cured me of my craving for a DSSD.

Ya, pretty impressive. I think it looks cool too. Just a tad big for me. I think it's larger than my dive computer :D

Imagine the engineering required to survive a 7 mile trip underneath the surface of the ocean. It's going to come at a price... the Marinemaster 1000M suffers from similar bloat. I mean, the SD is a beast too.

Thought I'd reach into the Wayback Machine and pull out a couple pieces three shades beyond retro. Before the wristwatch the pocket watch was the norm. I dig on these for their role in horology and in the eventual emergence of the wristwatch.

This first example is from the predecessor os Timex - the New England Watch Company. Original registered as the Waterbury Watch Co, they changed their name to the New England Watch Company in 1898 and operated as such until 1914 when they were amalgamated into Timex.

The below pocket watch is a fine example of their work, and the decorated movement shows the artisanal degree of workmanship that went into turn of the century American watches that is similarly historically associated with the Swiss watchmaking industry.

I know I could look it up, but before I do I was wondering if I could ask you this question .

Obviously there is a relationship between pocket watches and wristwatches. Is there is also a relationship between grandfather clocks or clock towers and wristwatch movements?

So I'm beginning to love the newer sbge285 "mistflake" from Grand Seiko. If I don't get the call soon for the Rolex GMT, I might go in this direction for my GMT...

That is a good looking watch. Weird how tastes change from month to month. You were getting tired of your Skyflake and this pops up. I know your aversion to Rolex guy but met a decent guy in the airport yesterday with a blue dialed Skydweller. Phenomenal in real life. I'm looking at picking up a blue Cartier Santos now. Hopefully that compulsion goes away in the near future.

Heh, it's weird how that happens. I've actually fallen back in love with the Skyflake. Wear it any chance I get in any situation that is a tad more than casual. I blame it on lingering immaturity.

I also got to talk to a blue sky dweller owner recently. Amazing guy, and amazing watch. My experiences with the douchyness of rolex is relegated to just sub owners, especially TT blue dialed versions.

That's a good question. Idk - I'd have to look it up myself. :shrug:b I can say with certitude however that clock towers predated watch movements.

Returning to the pocket watch, I know the movement on this is similarly decorate to the last, but the casebook wasn't cooperating and I didn't want to force it. The money shot on this Elgin is the enameled porcelain dial anyway.

So for the second time in a month I'm without the Glycine Combat Sub, but not due to malfunction this time.

I asked my dad last weekend why he no longer wears the Valjoux 7750 chronograph that had been his daily watch since I gave it to him as a birthday gift years ago. He told me it had become too heavy on his wrist, that wearing it now gave him wrist pain. I knew he liked the Glycine from comments he had made since I bought the first one, and this one was still brand new in its box. So I gave it to him. And he says it hasn't come off his wist since. :)

This one's for @smltwnrckr. And tbh, for me, too - not a single Timex across three boxes. Might need to rectify that deficiency after seeing this. 😬

Timex just released a new 40mm version of the Marlin, a faithful reproduction of the Viscount 1969. Available in blue and green sunburst dials. Simply gorgeous and well-worth the sub-$250 price tag IMO - especially if one makes use of the 15% sign-up coupon. Deal courtesy of the manontime.com Heads-Up thread.

Yea dude, I saw these and they're tits.  I love my marlin auto, but id be lying if I said they've not gotten better since they released mine. This one is the best one yet, imo.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

I've been waiting for the black and rose gold California dial Merlin for a few months. I'm digging the blue dial of this version. Really thinking of going with this model instead.

Do it.  California dials always made me wonder what's wrong with us as a people that we could design that.

@TheSanDiegan Every other week when I am out running errands on Sunday I stop at a few local pawn shops hoping to find good deals on guns or knives (this habit started ever since I found a Winchester 25/35 in 80% condition for $750)..  They had this gun for sale for $120.  It's a tad big for me but thinking of buying it for my uncle who has helped with a lot of home improvements the past year.  Should I pull the trigger or buy new?

Does the one at the pawn shop have its box and papers (read: manual)? Have you gone over it with a fine-tooth comb? What I can tell you is provided there aren't any cosmetic issues, they're tough as nails and there shouldn't be any issue with functionally - just QC the f*ck out of it before you buy it.

I dig on that but tbh I'm probably not the best person in this thread to ask... I really don't know shit about G-Shocks - mine is the budge model I bought years ago - you can see how beat to shit it is - it's what on my wrist if I'm mountain biking or doing dirty work in/around the house.
