OT: Larry Scott is out

Recommended Posts

The Pac 12 doesnt need a campaigner/huckster.  They need a rain maker.  Of course, thats what they thought Scott was.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Hey Pac 12 - hair has experience starting up and running a conference network (as well as shutting one down if that's what you're looking for).  He's a visionary, a man ahead of the times.

I just can’t believe how their media presence has diminished.  Nobody carries the PAC 12 network, and even ESPN and Fox seem to showcase the other conferences ahead of them.

Some sportsbooks don't carry it!

I think commissioners get WAY too much credit and hate. If USC did a better job replacing Carroll, Oregon did a better job replacing Kelly, and both stayed at that perennial top 15ish level, the perception of Scott is much better.

That being said, IIRC the Pac-12 had the opportunity to bring in OU and OSU, but decided not to if UT wasn’t a part of the deal; that was a colossal error. Had they done that the Big 12 would have been entrenched as the weakest P5 conference, and the Pac-12 would have been relevant in the CFP every year. Of course hindsight is 20/20, OU wasn’t quite at the level they are now, it seemed like the Big 12 could collapse anyway giving them another bite at the Apple, etc etc. But even at the time I thought it was pretty dumb to just say “thanks but no thanks” to the Oklahoma schools.

Although admittedly I have no idea if that was Scott’s call or academic snobbery from the Pac-12 presidents that made them pass on the OU and OSU.

It was not academic snobbery that caused the PAC-12 to reject OU & OSU.  OU was using the PAC-12 as leverage against the Big 12 to get a better deal with the Big 12.

Oregon has fought its way back into respectable grounds. I blame Haden for everything wrong with USC

O ok. In that case then the extreme hate for Scott is really stupid. Sounds like a bunch of schools are just mad that they didn’t hire better coaches and put a better product on the field, but are using the commissioner as a scapegoat.
